Old Fashioned Broody Hen Hatch A Long and Informational Thread

Love the BO with her own baby... and the BR too! Cute! This mom keeps them until they are about 4-6 weeks and then leaves them on their own. She is fine with me holding baby and then giving it back. So sweet. She really wants to sit on those other eggs so hoping she keeps it up!

My little cuckoo maran chick was so sweet today, it followed me to the food shed and i stroked it then it turned around and realised there was no other hens there so it ran off looking for mama!

I have a Serama who I think is going broody but wont sit through the day. She is in a pen with only her mate, could he be riling her up so she gets up and leaves the nest instead of staying to sit all day?

Reasons I think shes broody:
At night when I check on her, she gets all puffed up and screams at me like my big hens do when they are laying an egg. When I move her at night, she just settles down again and looks around for her egg. She used to not stay where I moved her, she would run back over to her mate and settle down next to him.

Soooo.. Broody or just odd? And how do I get her to stay all day?
ETA: how many eggs can a Serama hen cover? her own eggs of course.

My broody must run warm because the eggs that were due this Wednesday are starting to peep and two are piping. These are my d'uccle from my neighbor so hoping for some beautiful colors!

Hi
I have a broody hen(D'Uccle millie flure) that was sitting on 3 of her eggs.I candle them tonight they were no good so i removed them and replaced them with 3mallard duck eggs. What do you think the odds are that she can hatch them if she doesnt kick them out of the nest. She has already been sitting for 10 days.my mallards started laying around the first week of Aug.Will there eggs be any good? They should be fertile i have 3drakes.Also this is her second try.She tried to hatch in june but none hatched. So i would like for her to hatch babies. She wants to be a mama so bad. Also she is an older girl I dont know her exact age but id guess 5+ yrs.The woman i got her from didnt know there age either she had gotten them at the sale.Or should i get some chicks if i can find any and place under her at night? Thanks for any and all replys She is also my first broody.
