Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

You can try, mine are all Muscovy, so it's actually more... when will they stop going broody!?

same thing with my Sumatra's. It isn't IF they will go broody but when and how many times this year

Working on an external nesting box today before dh gets home

. I am using an old bookshelf that ill put a door on lol...

This morning I let the ducks out and she went & ate did her thing and came back and sat on the eggs. She is sitting on 12 I was able to mark them real fast while she was out. Now she is in & out of the coop almost pacing (is this normal?). She is also chirping alot more it sounds like a puppy hahaha!! I left the coop open - I put some food & water on the other side of the coop. Should I just shut the coop, the chickens keep going in & out checking out the eggs

I know im getting annoying I have no clue what I am doing I want to thank everyone for there help.....


Ok so I kicked all the chickens out of the duck coop ALL of them were in there. They were partying in there

they totally trashed the duck coop. They spilled food & water all over!!! No wonder she kept pacing hahaahhaa

DUH!! The drake goes in and check on her but is keeping his distance hes smart

... So now that I have kicked everyone out shes calm & sitting

Good for you, it's a wonder she didn't rip some heads off, they don't like to be disturbed when doing their brooding.

Yeah I will post pics the saws battery quit on me while I was cutting one of the shelves off LMAO!!! its gonna be a while.

I am gonna put a door in the front, coon proof the back, & cut the chicken nest holes up top... it's gonna be awesome not to crawl around in the small coop anymore

That is going to be awesome. great idea.. Oh I know my first coop I have to crawl inside to do anything so I use it for my bantam hens when they are brooding. All my other house have full size doors so I can walk in and do what ever I need to do, The goose house I want to be 6' high so I can walk into it and clean. have you ever bought anything from habitat for Humanity thrift stores? I am going to check on getting the doors there and we have bought windows for our duck/chickens and goose houses there. We had some windows given to us from a construction site our son is working on a redo, nice big windows we're going to use them in the goose house. I love recycled stuff. like your book case.
