Old fashioned Broody thread for ducks 2013 edition

7 days to go now.
I'm so nervous and hoping she hatches out a few!!

I'd love to candle them, but I'm afraid it would spook her off the nest.
She's comfy and happy so best to leave her be.

Do it when she goes down to the pond/lake. I always wait till mine are off the nest before I do my candling.

And on that topic, I think if you're going to candle, you should do it within the next few days, so that towards the very end, you can leave them alone. Agree with ML, I'd do it as soon as she leaves! :)

May give it a try if I can convince my husband to help. LOL

She came out for dinner and to socialize and bathe with the others.
And she used the chick feeder and water bottle I left her too. :)
Now she'll know where to teach the babies to eat and drink.

Is there any way to convince a pekin duck to brood? I sort of have a way, I put them up at night so i put some hay and the egg in there night box, after we put them up they start to settle down. They end up sitting on the egg. In the day i am the one that turns the egg. Sigh, i wish pekins were more broody.

The Pekins I had were the Broodiest of all my ducks-- those girls sole existence revolved around sitting on eggs! No convincing needed. I just allowed them to collect their eggs and they sat.
