Old fashioned Broody Thread for Ducks

My pastel Call hen Sassy is setting now. All my Call hens have been great setters.
Great pic! Love the nest.

Ling Ling is brooding. I don't have pictures right now. She's sitting on a pile of eggs right now.
Should be due to hatch next week. :) I have runners.

I let my runners brood last year. All my females ducks decided to become mammas at the same time. lol

This is a great thread -- finally -- after having geese, chickens and silkies going broody right and left, 3 out of my 6 female ducks seem to have gotten the bug. I'm a little nervous about it, as my geese were not very efficient about hatching their eggs -- 2 out of 5 so far lost their nests with no hatching -- but I'm hoping the ducks will be more productive. I really really would like to have more female Welsh Harlequins . . .

Should I put the remaining ducks in a different pen? I only have one drake, and there's three females that show no signs of broodiness so far. I'd like to keep all the nests in one area, so I'm wondering if I should wait or just go ahead and move them . . .the stories of the other ducks attacking the babies make me nervous!

You may find they will abandon their nest if you move them, My girls are nesting to the main duck house in stalls but the doors are open. I think the ducklings of my one that hatched has gotten pecked some but no blood and mamas are very protective about their babies. When they hatch though you'll need to keep an eye on your drake they have been know to kill ducklings, I have 2 drakes and neither one have even given the ducklings the time of day, but when she first brought them outside I watched them all closely. Sorry to hear about your goslings. I have a gander who has adopted my mama muscovy and her 3 ducklings.. I call him Papa goose.
