Old fashioned Broody Thread for Ducks

Just thought it might be nice to see if anyone who is letting mama take care of brooding might like to post her e and ask questions or just share their experience. I have 1 duck [Muscovy] who has hatched out 3 ducklings so far 2 more brooding,. Make sure you tell us the breed of your duck too and of course pics. Things you have learned and things you will do different next time. How easy it was to sell the ducklings or if your planning on keeping them.

Are those Muscovies? They look like my little call ducks and I have a BEI baby that looks just like the one with the white on it's chest. Actually, I don't know why it has white on it's chest, but it does. As for things I wold have done differently - my two Mama's hatched in separate pens 4 days apart - but when I try to put them together it is a huge disaster. Babies running everywhere and the Mama's in a death grip. They got along fine before this and I thought now that the little ones are around 2 weeks old things would settle down. So, I probably wouldn't let two go broody at the same time - too much drama!

Yes they are Muscovy, and I think it is very interesting how so many ducklings look alike from all the different breeds. Hard to tell whats what. lol My first 2 broodys have done really well together, now the one suppose to hatch this week is not friends with these 2 so no telling what may come of this. But from all I have seen I don't think we'll be getting any duckling from this duck anyway, she is now down to 1 egg. What your describing sounds more like my broody chickens. lol

LET THE HATCHING BEGIN!!! This is my first hatch and boy, Daisy sure is prompt

. Today is day 29 and I checked in on her like always. I noticed that she was not sitting completely flush on her nest and there seemed to be a gap. Sure enough, a wet little head came up and was peeping like crazy

. I have so much to do today but I want to just sit and watch! I started last year with 4 Pekins (2 male and 2 female). We were remiss just one night and did not close the door to their very secure pen, and sadly, both males and 1 female were kidnapped (fox, I'm sure)

. The next day, Daisy went broody. She seemed so sad and depressed being all alone and I am just so elated that I will have babies as a reminder of our other beautiful Pekins! Daisy is being very protective so I can't get any baby pics yet. I believe only one has hatched but she is sitting on about 20 eggs so hopefully, if more hatch, it will be harder for her to keep them completely covered and I can share! THIS IS SOOOOO AWESOME

Hi I just found this thread and since I just took some new pics of my Calls and their ducklings.
This is a pic of my Calls all together

This is Millie, my Blue Fawn duck, with her three ducklings out of five eggs. Two are Grey and the last is a Blue Fawn.


Here is Angel, my White Call duck, with her brood of five ducklings out of six eggs. Three are Blcak Bibbed, the last two are Grey like their daddy duck.


I also have a EE hen that went broody so I put four of Millies eggs under her, she hatched out two. One is a Grey the other a Blue Fawn. All but the five Greys are for sell, I don't ship though, if anyones interested just email or PM me Thanks lots

Riddle me this- why is Dusty my duck with the 4+wk old going broody?

I am strongly discouraging the behaviour she should be out with the baby and besides.. Lilly's eggs should hatch later this week and possibly the ones i stuck back under Lilac and the chickens come next week so the Inn is full!

They are beautiful cat. love the colors.  Congrats.. what state are you way back in the sticks in?  for anyone interested in your ducklings.

My duck's broody, and she just....She'd be an amazing mother. She sat on them through a storm last night. She has woven her own feathers into her nest. She'd be an awesome mother. But the eggs are overdue. Well over a month now. They don't smell rotten, so they can't be bad. She's still super protective of them, and she wouldn't be if they were bad or not fertile, right? But she's been sitting on them for so long. A few days ago, it looked like she was expecting something to happen. She stood up by the nest and turned them a bit, and then just looked at them. Like she was ready for them to hatch. She has a giant pen for her and the babies to stay until they're large enough for the creek, she has a plenty of hay on the bottom of her pen and she has food and water. I have everything planned for these babies.

Any advice?
