If you can save his life by fighting the infection, I would do that. But I would not do the dental work if he is at the end of his life. My cat is 15 and has horrible teeth, that have been like that for several years. He also has kidney failure, and the vet said that the anesthesia would be too hard on him, plus he won't live that long anyway. They can live and do okay with the bad teeth, just make sure that he can eat (mine eats soft food, and small hard kibble).

Cant make it to vet today...ds forgot he had to work so left in a hurry...i cant drive my car in the snow...dang it! I wish I could give him something for the pain or infection...

BYC'ers are so smart, you got good advice...
try to have someone hold him in a bath towel while you flush the area out with warm salt water, or a half hydrogen peroxide half warm water mixture. (Don't let him swallow it, would cause vomiting if enough swallowed) You can use an old bulb syringe to flush, or I suppose even a turkey baster. Good Luck.

PJ had mouth Cancer and was put to sleep today! He will be greatly missed by our family! He was a beautiful cat and beloved member of our family for the last 13 years. Thanks to all for the advice!

I'm so sorry about PJ- the longer they stay the harder it is, and they never stay long enough. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Rest assured you did the best thing for him and he was loved for a long and wonderful life.
