Oldest Milk EVER - Girls love it.

We give ours milk from time to time... they LOVE cheese and go bonkers for it.

So it would be ok to give them all the breakfast scraps? Rice bubbles, weet-bix, corn flakes and milk? Toast crusts? Someone may as well eat the crusts 'cause my youngest two kids won't!!

We have 9 kids, so theres NEVER out of date milk here. There's a lot of bowls to scrape though. What about soy milk? Would that be ok?

Oh my goodness yes, it's MORE than ok! I'm telling your chickies you've been wasting all that yummy stuff and they're going to be standing at your door in the morning and peering in the kitchen window waiting for it tomorrow!

Though too much sugar isn't the best, it'll rot their teeth!

We always give our chickens our outdated milk-- they go nuts over it!!!

We drink milk from our farm. I put it in a tea jar so that the cream rises to the top. When I had hens before, I would give the cream to them and they loved it. My question is, at what age can I start giving it to my batch of chicks?. They are 10 days old today.

Here's an important word: "old."

And, here is what the poultry scientists say : "Chickens do not possess the necessary enzymes to efficiently hydrolyze lactose into glucose and galactose."

So in other words, they are lactose intolerant.

If they have the micro-organisms that are found in cultured milk products, chickens can apparently make use of the lactose. In fact, providing them with these "probiotics" has been researched as a way to prevent disease.

Micro-organisms are probably going to quickly populate milk if it is left at room temperature for several hours. Actually making cheese should completely culture the milk with "beneficial bugs." All that should be of help to the chickens.

Fresh milk may be something that they just "thought" they wanted to drink. Like some of us . . .
