Olive Egger Gender?

I think the not recognized breed is a shame for the industry as these hybrids are beautiful

Some people may be working to get their crosses recognized... once it "breeds true"... There are a lot of really good and interesting ones that I have seen. I would love for some of them to be recognized... I tell you what it's hard work breeding... and lot's of fun!

MANY hatcheries ARE selling their OWN unrecognized hybrids as OE. And for quite a pretty penny too!

To me the term olive egger just means a cross between a dark brown laying breed and a blue laying breed (or type, with Easter eggers.) I don't think it can be defined more narrowly than that.

As for sex of this bird, if the cream legbar was the mother, then you have a cockerel. If the cream legbar was the father, then it could be either and it is a little too early to be certain of its sex. In a couple of weeks, it's worth trying again.

Totally agree. People I think have fallen in love with the green egg and a colorful fresh egg basket. The breed mixes are interesting and beautiful. I do own myself a couple unrecognized hatchery hybrids and APA breeds. The sell on the hybrid for me was early prolific layer with small weight but large egg size and easy on the feed bill. Plus the breed is common in my area.

Hey everyone, thanks so much for insight. I bought the fertilized eggs from a chicken breeder. My interest is in a colorful egg basket. The olive egger I got from her last Spring ended up laying the prettiest color. She also has been working on a line that lays light green with brown speckles. I’m not certain about which was the hen and which was the rooster, I have a message in with her to ask though. I’ve attached a picture of my older olive egger Blanche and one of her gorgeous eggs.

Definitely a pretty uniform egg color.
