OMG!!! First Game Cam pic ever. Huge Funny thread

Thank you, emys. Those measurements are very helpful. I took the diameter of the tree, 9.12 inches and doubled it, and placed this measurement (18.24") over the cat. It very nearly corresponds to the body of the cat from the base of the tail to the neck.

Now, the cat is 8 inches further back from the tree, but that would not affect the apparent size of the cat more than an inch or so. Let's see now...what kind of a cat has a body that is 18 inches long?

The tree is only 9" in dia. and the back foot is only 8" away! That makes that cat about 12-14" tall. It's not even big enough to be a bobcat. I vote small domestic cat.

Yep that is a domestic house putty cat! Look at the white markings around the neck, and I did photoshop it and it looks to be a pale orange/yellow cat with white markings.

The lynx in this pic as a bob tail
not the longer tail of the nightcam pic
now I'm more confused

I see bobcats with long tails all the time. A mature bobcat can grow a tail up to three feet long. It all depends on the area. A mountain lion's tail is on average 1.5 times the length of the entire body of the animal. But after seeing the measurements and looking at the mass of the animal. This is either a domestic or feral cat. A bobcat or lynx of that kind of mass is much larger. The animal in the pic has a very short tail. It is not a bob tail, but it is not long enough for a mountain lion at any age. Thank you for pointing that out. It helped me to take a closer look at the picture.

OMG! How did my Bonzo kitty get there? Yes, I have some very large male cats. Just don't have any pics of them. Just the color of this cat reminds me of my cat. Bonzo's brother Patches is just as long and as tall. Then I have Boots and Friskie, all large male cates.

But I still think it's some wild cat. I even showed my SO and he says large wild cats also.

I've been lurking in this thread. I have three cats and don't think the game cam took a photo of a domestic cat. However, I'm no expert on what it could be instead. The person who does taxidermy thinks it's an American Lynx. Whirlwind's Photoshop skills impress me and make me think it's larger than a domestic cat.

Let's say both camps are correct: It's larger than a domestic cat but smaller than a mountain lion or bobcat. What's the next question? What's in between those two cats? I watch too much Monk.

Here's what happened:

A bobcat and a domestic cat met and fell in love. They had a love child, called the American short hair bob. Here's a picture of one.

An acquaintance of mine has one of these cats. It's huge. It can open their patio door and comes up to her waist. I will ask her for a picture to post.

several years ago i had a friend whoes long haired gray cat streched out on our full length sofa while we were cat sitting him - head and tail rested on the arm rests!!!!!
we also rescued a long haired orange tabby male many years ago and he weighed 58 lbs.!

So is post 241 the deciding factor? It looks like a domestic cat with the big white spot on it's neck and face which is not something any wild cat would have. It's a little longer than 18 inches which is the normal size for a domestic cat and far too small for any wild cat. I'm not sure how it's even debatable anymore.
