OMG...I Think I Have a Baby WILD Turkey...see pics..

Well our 2 new babies are wild turkeys. Think coyotes got their mom and siblings; We have them under a light. Feeding them starter turke
y food, got gravel for them to pick at and now we are hand feeding them cause they won't eat. I thougt the lil guy was dying so we started to spoon feed then. I hate having to pry their little peaks open but they just aren't eating on their own. They drink water but won't eat the feed. They are a full time job.

How are they doing?

Thanks for asking. Today they started eating on their own. They are getting their little tail feathers and are getting wing feathers. We figured they are about almost 2 weeks old now. We almost lost the littlest one a couple of times but pulled him through. Boy what a relief that they are eating. We checked their crawls several times today to see they are getting enough. And they are doing good.

We have well water and I put nothing in the water. Do you have chickens or have there ever been chickens on your property? If so, read up on blackhead (histomoniasis).

I just bought a baby turkey a few weeks ago they said it was 3 weeks old was running around the feed store grain room-- had full feathers was about the size if a large eggs w/ head neck and legs -- no special attetion at home no heat but has been in the 80s since I ahce had it growing slow accidently found it can swim-- and has flying capibibilties - just feeding it chicken starter and now 12 weeks old feeding it a mix of scratch and it likes eating greass very friendly to pet and follows me around

I put a splash of apple cider vinegar and a crushed raw garlic clove (doesn't need to be the entire clove, just a little piece) in my water. It's supposed to help prevent coccidiosis. You don't have to, same for vitamins. I just do it for peace of mind. And I think well water is better for them than city water. But if you have a water softener that would be bad, that would give them too much salt.

Thank you for the input. Will go to grocery and get some garlic tomorow. I have garlic powder I sprinkle on the dogs food for fleas but I will the use fresh for the feathersheads. Cant get over how much they have grown in 2 weeks time.have a good evening.

Wish I had this post long ago.
