Omg!! Such Stupid People One Meets!!

Parents raising kids that think as they do - that living creatures are totally disposable, at-your-convenience "things" with no needs or feelings of their own, to be thrown away like an old shirt when you're done with it.

I had a call one time from a lady that was returning to TSC to get more chicks because the first ones died. What do you think happened to them ? she ask . They were fine when we were playing with them and then we put them outside for the night and the next morning they are all dead. DUH, its march in North Carolina. No light on them , but mostly no sense.

I have ended up with dogs and cats because people got them as cute puppies then dumped them when they got to big and not so cute. It drives me crazy.

I'm sorry but there is no vaccine for stupid. If you really want to feel the full effect of this phenomenon...try being a foster parent for 11 yrs. There are people in the world who only think of their own wants and wishes.

I have 6 kids who came to me from people who give no more care to kids then they do to chicks or dogs or cats or other adults.

It happens. As I've been told many times (even though I've raged against the tide)

You can't save them all.

I give you kudos for speaking up.

She probably wasn't stupid, just insensitive and self absorbed. It is the curse of our times.

When I got my chicks the lady helping us was very very thourough at asking me what my brooder looked like, was this my first time with chicks, what kind of lamp was I planning to use, did I need feed and other supplies. I had done my research, but I really appreciated that she wanted to make sure we didn't go home with chicks we weren't prepared to care for. I wasn't bothered at all that she asked so many questions. I think if I hadn't had the right answers I would have got a lecture!

You did a good thing, I hope the chicks live.

I wish people didn't treat living animals so carelessly. Whether it's a goldfish or a dog, what kind of message does that send your children? Just because an animal might one day end up as dinner doesn't mean it should be treated without care and basic decency. There is no reason to cause unnecessary suffering in any living creature. I always judge a persons character by how they treat animals and children.

Your topic got me to thinking on what I'd say in your situation and I think I've hit on a good one. Next time you encounter a stupid chick buyer, simply tell them that the chicks aren't weaned yet and need to be bottle fed EVERY hour for the next 6 weeks. Things that are labor intensive tend to lose their appeal. I just hope it will work 'cause you can't fix stupid.
