We have 3 pullets that are approximately 7weeks old. Two of them look like "normal" chicks from the pics I've seen. However, one of them is much lighter (almost white) with some brown speckles on the end of its wings and around the neck. She also seems to have less fluffiness to her feathers. I am starting to wonder if she is maybe a "he." Is it normal for them to be so different in color? Does anyone think I got a rooster by chance?

It would help if you could post clear photos of the lighter chick, so we could give our opinion. Buff orps look the same whether male or female. Some breeds have different colors for each gender,Buff Orps do not. Welcome to Backyard chickens.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. X2 on drumstick diva. Trying to ID a chicken without a picture is like shooting in the dark. Perhaps someone there can answer your questions. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck in having all pullets.

Ooops. It's getting late and my mind was foggy. I meant to say, "If you can post a picture, perhaps we can answer your question." Sorry for the typo.)

Hello, and welcome to BYC![IMG] I'm glad you joined our community.

A different color probably means that it is a different breed, not that it is a rooster. It may be a different breed, like a Production Red (or your Buff Orpingtons may not actually be Buff Orpigntons at all).
