I just got my new chicks today, and it seems like one may be sick. The haven’t been moving around much, typically laying down on the heated side of the brooder. Thier activity of getting up is also decreasing. Before when picking it up, it would wiggle around a lot. Now it doesn’t put up much of a fight and doesn’t walk around. She hasn’t eaten much but she has drank some. I did mix some sugar water but that doesn’t seem to work. Any ideas?

I’d make sure your heat lamp is at the right height so they are not getting too hot or cold. You’re shooting for 95 degrees or so for really young chicks. They also need room to get away from the heat if needed. Not sure how big your box is there, but having a cooler space with their food and water would be ideal.

The Poultry NutriDrench is a popular product and can be very helpful in giving them a boost. I’d try to pick some up and have it on hand ASAP. If you do a few searches on it here, you’ll get lots of info on how to use it in different situations.

Big welcome to BYC here, and hope that little one pulls through!

They seem to be pretty fine with the heat. My box has a hot and cool side. They seem to walk around freely in the box. Also unfortunately, the chick passed away a couple of hours after. We were planning to take it to a vet but we didn’t have enough time. But now one of the other chick shows bad signs! They’ve begun doing the same thing as the other and I think one of thier legs may be having trouble. I did see one of the chicks pull at a white chicks leg a couple hours ago but I separated them for a while. I haven’t seen it done since but perhaps the damage was already done.
