one of my chickens got attacked by a dog will it survive

we have a fenced-in front and back yard and she still outside free roaming with the flock
Serate her inside in a dog crate or bin. She needs to be away form the flock or they will pick at the wound and cause more damage. That is VERY important! Plus, you need to watch her food/water intake.

This is hardly a "put out of misery" wound..

Sounds like you've got this one handled, Avery.

Wash the wound as Weeg suggested and pat dry with a clean cloth. Apply a THICK layer of ointment. Keep the wound moist with ointment. Do not let it dry out. That is the most important thing to remember. Do not let it dry out.

I would seperate her if you notice others pecking at her. They can go from zero to eating her alive in no time.

Thank you! She should recover as long as you can put your time into this hen. Thick layer of Neosporin is important too, like @Overo Mare suggested. That wound is bright red and will be picked very quickly!

I would put it out if it's misery. There's going to be a lot of pain for that chicken!

@jimmymarch, don't give up yet, really. See how it goes.... she could heal well, you never know.
Maybe give her painkillers.
Keep us updated!

If she's eating and drinking, and otherwise acting normally, I would not give aspirin.
