One of my customers just got a rotten egg. Should I be so freaked out?

Are you the only person who supplies eggs to that store? Is there any possibility that the egg may come from another source?

I've had a streak of bad eggs lately. I wouldn't feel bad but 1/2 of them went to my customers. I was mortified! I told them I'd refund their money and give each of them a free dozen. Hopefully that will keep them buying form me.

I need to find a way to prevent bad eggs from going out in my containers! From what I've read, the float test sounds like a good start. Eggs that sink are good, floating eggs are bad. I'm thinking about candling as well. I wash my eggs under cold water and with a washcloth. Maybe I need to use a sanitizing wash. I'll research that. I have had poopy eggs that I thought would be fine with a good wash. I'm starting to re-think that. Maybe I'll keep the dirty ones for home use? I did notice an odor with my eggs that probably shoulnd't have been ignored. I think the smell and float tests are going to be standard.

I'll take other suggestions if anyone has them...

I don't wash my eggs never have I don't eat the shell. I think my customers realize my eggs are farm fresh there not store bought not every single egg is perfect. I have sold some fake eggs by mistake. I had a lady come back & said man that's the hardest egg I've ever seen. I told her yup they get a lot of calcium. I got my fake one back & gave her some to replace it. I've never had any complaints about my eggs tho.
