One of my hens dies last night

she was out of the pen when I got home from work last night - I don't know how long she'd been out and had no water. I put her back in the coop last night and this morning she was dead. I'm wondering if she was dehydrated. How long can chickens go without water? Thanks.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm not positive on how long they can go with out water, but I would think just 1 whole day might stress them a bit. Guess it would depend on what kind of weather you are having too. Sorry once again.

They're pretty resourceful at finding water, but other stresses from the environment may have been more than she was able to overcome. Sorry to hear about your loss, it's always tough.

Thank you for the replies. It's very upsetting not knowing what caused her death and what I could have done to prevent it.
