One of those more dollar than sense coops.......Inside pictures added

So cute!!! I want one too! Are they insulated enough so that they will keep the hens warm in the winter? Can you add light in the darker months? Is the run part really big enough for 4 chickens?

It's not lame, it's unique. My only worry is that the outside run doesn't look very strong. I would worry about a coon or fox digging under or lifting up the wire. Coons have little front paws that look just like a human hand and they are very strong. Maybe something along the bottom to anchor it more securely to the ground would be a good addition.

This winter will be my first, but when I was looking into coops I took into consideration the New England Winters, so I wanted something insulated. The Eglu is on the same lines as and Igloo dog house (double insulated). The front has holes for ventilation and the poop pan area is ventilated as well. I have a friend that uses a snuggle safe in thier small wooden tractor (but I heard on here it messes with the girls as they will aclimate to the temp) Also it's been pointed out to me that pidgeons are exposed to the elements and do quite well, and well you know, chickens come with thier own down comforter. I could add a light if I wanted, but I think the only reason to do that is to extend the laying of eggs, but I can do with less eggs in the winter months. I say, "Let the girls relax!" The girls are allowed to free range (as far as they want with in the netting I move around) while supervised. So for the length of time they actually spend in the run it's plenty big.

The run is weld mesh covered with nylon and has a skirt that sticks out aprox 1 foot all the way around, as most predators will dig close to the outside wall, the weld mesh skirting will not allow them to dig and they will (fingers crossed) move on. The vegitation where the run is located will grow up through the skirting and thier root system keeps it securly attached to the ground (nice unless I want to move the unit to another piece of lawn) but secure enough to stop a predator from picking it up, well, maybe a bear could, but there are none here (that I'm aware of) as an added mesure I have garden stakes placed around the run holding the skirt securely.

I think tygab was referring to comments made on other threads. There's been some discussions of the pros and cons of eglus. I myself, would have gladly bought one if I had the money. I've seen pics of the innards, and they are pretty well designed. I would love to clean my coop out with a garden hose!
