This winter will be my first, but when I was looking into coops I took into consideration the New England Winters, so I wanted something insulated. The Eglu is on the same lines as and Igloo dog house (double insulated). The front has holes for ventilation and the poop pan area is ventilated as well. I have a friend that uses a snuggle safe in thier small wooden tractor (but I heard on here it messes with the girls as they will aclimate to the temp) Also it's been pointed out to me that pidgeons are exposed to the elements and do quite well, and well you know, chickens come with thier own down comforter. I could add a light if I wanted, but I think the only reason to do that is to extend the laying of eggs, but I can do with less eggs in the winter months. I say, "Let the girls relax!" The girls are allowed to free range (as far as they want with in the netting I move around) while supervised. So for the length of time they actually spend in the run it's plenty big.
