One of those more dollar than sense coops.......Inside pictures added

I wish they would bring the Eglu Cube to the USA - I bet that would sell well and have hundreds more folks keeping chickens.

I'm on the Omlet forum as well as BYC, and I am constantly dropping hints and asking when the Eglucube will be made availabe here. Hasn't happened yet, but I've heard end of this year, start of next year (fingers crossed).

The girls are very comfortable in the Eglu while roosting and the one nest box works beautifully. I sometimes get an egg on the roosting bars (two of my girls lay within minutes of each other) but as long as the egg doesn't get broken I'm ok with that. My particular run is the standard run and as the girls have grown I feel it is too small to keep them "cooped" up all day so I let them free range just as soon as I come home. I sometimes feel guilty about keeping them shut in the run while at work so I am in the process of building a larger walk in run. Omlet does sell a converter and extension (need the converter if adding an extension) each will add an additional 1m to the run. You could buy just the converter (but not just an extension) and get just 1m more, but I think that would still be too small if you weren't able to free range them.

I would buy a converter and extension, but I hope to get 8 more girls and another eglu (hopefully the cube will be available in the US soon) then I could get up to 10 more. That is why I'm building a walk in. I only hope I can make it as predator proof as the Eglu one has been. I've seen evidence that a predator or two have tried to breach my security with no luck. Touch wood.

I don't think your coop is lame at all. I think it looks really great. It would be especially nice for anyone who might be a DIY now but we are all going to get older, and quite frankly, we have gotten into some real messy DIY projects. I know when I get older that coop looks just about perfect. Sometimes time is really money and you may have taken the most practical way to chickendom.

Thanks Smith2. When I originally posted it was shortley after I had seen some negative comments on another chicken forum where someone had said "Anybody who would buy one of those must have more dollars than sense"! If I hadn't found the Eglu, keeping chickens would have remained out of my reach. My four girls are each laying an egg a day. They are happy, stress free, and well fed and are definatley the most productive "pet" I have ever owned.

Looks good I sometimes think people give there hens to much space inside my hens are never locked up inside and spend most time outside except to lay or roost and sometimes eat layer pellets or drink water. I have 11 hens all LF a few light breeds a few medium and a few heavies in a 6x4 coop. I feel they have more than enough space an I am adding at least 4 more pullets and I have never had problems with fighting. The important thing is adiquate distractions and outside space. That coop looks great I considered it but wanted more hens. It looks very easy much easier then my set up but I would not trade my nice new well built and same price as the igloo (sorry) coop for the world LOL I am still paying my parents off on it.
