Muscle memory is a finicky thing... and sometimes getting our brains back into a correct concentration mode is more difficult than we would like to admit.
I had a minor leg/foot injury recently which put my normal exercise routine on hiatus for a few weeks... getting back into the physical activity wasn't horrible but getting my head back into the habit was much more difficult. If we could get our conscious and subconscious brains to cooperate there could be a lot more accomplished! LOL

So true!

Started a medallion style quilt with a 20" Carpenter's Wheel in the center, using my historic fabrics. I have no idea how it will progress or what size it will be (less than a queen, though, most likely). The colors don't show well. The darkest is a deep olive green with dark gold, a dark orangey gold and a light cream color fabric as the background. Click on it to see the detail in the fabric.

I like that pattern and the colors combine nicely. I like that the little leaves in the olive fabric match so nicely with the orange/gold fabric.

Hubby likes the pattern, he said it would look good in ocean colors also, such as shades of teals and blues...

It looks great in a lot of colors, really. I've done it in pinks/purples for my niece, below, and I think it would really pop in purples and bright yellows/golds.

I have the 24" block finished, now for the first border. I am going to do a 2" border, but I'm not sure if I go with the same gold fabric that's in the block, or this slightly darker gold or introduce an accent color like this solid eggplant. What do you think? And this is without even knowing what my next step will be, of course.. I don't have enough historic fabrics to do the entire quilt, but I don't want to brighten it up too much, either.

ETA: Decided on the darker gold, though I may use eggplant/dark purple accents in other blocks of later rounds. We'll see.

I prefer the dark gold over the eggplant also, just come back and look at it with fresh eyes later to make sure that the added pattern doesnt make things look too busy, it looks good in the picture but pictures and real life can be very different.
To me the dark gold looks like the same shade as the little leaf accents in the olive fabric.

I asked my husband's opinion and he thought the darker gold veered toward the color in that dark brownish-olive print with the leafs accents and if I had used the same gold as in the block, it would be sort of washed out. Now, I'm making twelve 14" Acanthus blocks (below) to go around the now 28" block. This is the one I got off www.quilterscache.com. I just have to choose the 4 colors for it, another challenge since I do think that all twelve should be the same fabrics. I'll have to work with what I have enough of to make all twelve.
