So I went out to the barn earlier and could hear the sound of babies (chicks) crying. I saw 'Nugget' (blue OEGB) sitting on the floor with one of her babies (she has 2) and it was the one making all the noise. I couldn't figure out what was wrong with it

I moved her to check it and the little stinker (hen) bit me!

Nugget is very sweet, she never bites, not even when she's on eggs. So I'm looking at this chick and thinking "that is not your baby, Nugget. It's too small". Then I look at the hen....it's not Nugget

Apparently another blue OEGB, who was using one of the pigeon nests as her box, has hatched her eggs. Those nests are 10+ feet up on the wall, but the bantam hens just love them. I only just noticed that she was sitting about a week ago, guess she'd been up there longer than I thought. Checking the nest found another 3 chicks and 3 more eggs. 1 egg was bad, 1 was pipped, and the other wasn't bad or pipped yet, so we'll see on it.

No wonder the poor baby was crying....I'd be crying too if I just fell 10+ feet out of the nest!

Every time I let them out in the morning and there is a small SWARM of chickens... but I am still hatching away like I have only ONE..lol

I need a little advice about the "Mottled Cochins" I picked up here....

They don't look like any Mottled that I have found on feathersite, and they are nothing like the description in the APA standard.

The chicks are filling out well, and are nicely feathered, but they are patchy with huge blotches of black and white. Any ideas what they are?? I kept thinking they would improve, but the patches are staying the same.

It happened to me today because they are getting so big. The oldest are about 12 weeks. The ducks are only 8 weeks and huge! I swear, the look full grown except for their wings.

I had someone ask me how many I have.....I answered quickly I don't know. The real answer was I don't want to know.
