is that some sort of record?!?!

I decided to open it to see what shape the eggs are in and I've gotten 5 unwrapped and only one slightly cracked. They don't stink either. I figured they would be smelly by now. The box isn't beat up either. This box has been sitting somewhere untouched all this time.

Well, it's just amazing. Out of a dozen 17+ days old eggs, there was one cracked and 2 slightly smelly. I still don't want to put them in my bator. Maybe i'll candle them tonight to see if they where kept warm. I would think hey would stink by now. The lady I got them from was going to send me replacements but her birds went broody. Or something like that. I don't expect her to replace them anyway. It's not her fault the PO is ignorant.

I've had pretty good luck so far this year with shipped eggs. There have been a couple disasters due to the packers inability to pack well. This one package is the only one that showed up late and boy was it. The other packages had either no broken eggs or one or two.

Most everybody has done a great job on packing the eggs i've received, so a thumbs up to you

I still think I would set them.. you just never know.. I have had eggs for weeks and finally decided to set them and
I still had a pretty good hatch now they werent shipped eggs but you never know worth the try you might get lucky.

On another note.... Dont know if anyone else feels this way but it ticks me off.. When you bid on eggs or even do trades and it says
EXTRAS WELL SEND THE darn EXTRAS EVEN IF IT IS ONLY ONE.. extras really mean alot with shipped eggs at least I feel they do.

I always send at least 2 extras unless stated otherwise but most of time it is even more extras because I have them and I understand
some people dont have alot of extras or any but dont state that 6 + or 12+ or however many + and then not send any if you dont think
you can do it, Just list as 6 or 8 or 12 and if you happen to get a extra or so then send them then it is a big surprise..
Which we all like surprises..

I've done mostly trades and as long as i get the 6 that are required to offer I don't worry about any extras. It is a plus though to get them. Sometimes to get the eggs in the mail in a timely manner extra's aren't possible. Since I have silkies I know how they are with laying. Right now all my hens are broody. The last two started yesterday. So no silkie eggs from me for a while. My sizzles are laying though but i've been putting them in the bator since my last shipment. I put a new roo n with with them and I want to see what they feather out to look like so no trading for me for a little while.

I try to send at least 2 extras or 3.
but 2 hens went broody so I am sending only 1 extra now.
I feel bad that I cant send more but if the hens would cooperate I could.

I am hoping to hatch a nice roo to put in with my EEs so by fall I can offer either EEs or OEs.

I usually just say 6 or 6 only. I only collect for 2 days then send. Rarely have extras of the silkies, but if I do, then I put them in. I chose the day before I collect and the day after I send to set eggs from that 'batch' so I can follow along how well they develop etc.
