Let me know, when you would like some more silkie eggs. They are pretty much, the only hens, I have laying right now.

I put my last eggs in the bator for now anyway. I want to shut them down for a while. They've been going since feb of 2010, Time for a break. I actually had to oil the fan on one of them today. Any eggs I get I'll have up for sale or swap them in the "What Ya Got" swap thread. I have an order for 3 dozen right now. I"m getting mostly silkie eggs. I replaced the grey roo with a blue one in the bbs pen and a red partridge pullet is laying now too. I have 2 broody sizzles now with only 2 sizzles laying and one of them is a pullet laying her first time. She's blue and I got her as an egg from pamperdpoultry. She's also with the calico roo. I would put her with the blue silkie but I wouldn't know which was silkie and which was sizzle.

My oegb roo died and I put the hen in the bbs pen for lack of a better place and she started to lay the other day. Surprisingly she lays nearly as large an egg as a silkie and I think I have a couple of her eggs in the bator.

She wont' let the silkie roo near her so she isn't bred. I have a jap bantam chick I'm pretty sure is a cockereal and one of her chicks that's buddy to the jap. Those will all go in a pen with the hen that is a widow when they get older and I sell off some of these chicks I have.

Anyway......... that was a long story. lol I won't be trading for eggs for a while but I will be happy to trade for something else off of the swap thread or sell them. My current going rate is $15 for 3 dozen or as close as I can get to that in a 3 day period. depends on the hens or $5 for 8 eggs. And of course what ever the shipping would be to get them to you.

I've had incubators running since July or August of 2008. I'm getting pretty sick of hatching and always say that I'm going to shut them down. But what am I supposed to do with the eggs that don't sell? Could I really cook a Marans's egg? Or a duck egg? A Serama? A Silkie?? Nope...so the incubators stay on...even in the winter

I plan to hatch this winter like I always do. I sell almost all of them in the spring. But I need somewhere to put them when they get big enough to go out. So I have to sell alot of what I have and empty up some pens. We wanted to go away for the weekend but can't because it's suppose to be very hot and I can't trust anybody to take care of the chickens. Last time the person said they fed and watered but when I got home everything was empty. And we all know how long it takes for our birdies to run out of food and water. He supposedly filled everything the night before. I lost1 guinea keet because it's leg was stuck in the wire mesh and it had been there a while. It was so weak from struggling and lack of food and water it died shortly after I rescued it. I put it in a brooder with heat and plenty of food and water. I hade it drink but it was too late.

If I can get the flock down to a manageable size we may be able to go out of town for a weekend when it cools off. I won't have to worry about having to put out frozen water bottles and refreshing the water. I have large water containers and feeders and they never run out with me. Since I go out and check on them several times a day.

I need to start making them some treats out of the dust left over from the feed. I hate to see feed go to waste. I made feeders for the quail and young chicks that have very little waste.

They're made out of bleach bottles. I haven't tried to use one for water yet but it's an idea.

Can you post a pic of the bleach bottle feeder? I also have eggs running out of my ears. Both of my bators full and I am planning to get a bigger one!

I use the plastice milk jugs and make little holes all the way around big enough for them to fit there heads in
and then cut a whole in the top it works good for food and water and its free.. Love the free idea. I have them made
for all different size birds even the adults just make the holes higher up the jug for the different age groups.

then I use 2 liter soda bottles for the grit and hang them or tie them to the side of pens

I just got done cooking some eggs. Mind you, they were mixed breeds on the bantam, and the LF are infertile. Yummy, best egg samiches!

I put the top inside the bottom. See how the spout is situated? The feed is put in the top and it comes out the spout as they eat the feed.

I tape the top in place to the bottom and I cut the bottom off a 1 gallon ice cream bucket for a lid. They will jump on top and scratch it out if you don't put on a lid.

I'm sure it can also be used as a water bowl also

I can't eat them anyways, so most likely they'd be fed to the birds.
