The top that is put inside the bottom part won't stick up so far when you bet it situated and taped down. I tape all the way around it. Duct tape is best of course. The one pictured I did real fast so I could get pictures of each step because somebody wanted to see how it was put together. I just started another one today. I just have to cut the holes and tape it. I make one out of every bleach jug I empty. They are so handy. I use them for chicks and grown quail. I don't use them for birds bigger than quail when grown. I"m afraid they'll get their heads stuck. The chicks will climb right in and eat away but they still don't waste hardly any feed when they scratch around.

Those quart jar feeders there is so much waste it drives me insane. I put the cut bottoms off of the ice cream bucket under them to try to save some of the feed.

yes, we eat alot of ice cream year round

came home to a still pipped and half shredded call duck egg, I mean poor guy couldnt get turned around. SO glad he made it though, I helped him out, he was ready to come out thank goodness, he's drying out under his honorary momma hen right now, Australian spotted green headed call. A few nights ago I went to candle eggs and found that egg had accidently been bumped on the side of the nest by the hen, it was oozing just the tiniest bit and I was freakin out! I brought it in and candled it, the baby was still alive so I used a white unscented taper and covered the spider crack in wax, thankfully the little extra airbubble it had made was fairly small so the little fella made it alright. I cant wait till hes dry and I can get pictures! HES SO CUUUUTE! Such a tiny little thing! My first call.... AHHHHHHHHH

UGGGGGG.. taking some dried chicks out of the hatcher this morning and one unhatched egg POPPED... rotten stench filled the room in seconds.. I quickly got the drying chick out.. the rest of the eggs in a towel and put them in the sun until I could clean the hatcher..

That bedroom was considered a biohazard until I could air it out and spray freshner -- I think I used a whole can of lemon fresh!!!

brings new meaning to the phrase.. "last one in is a rotten egg".. never knew what a bad bad thing that was.

Luckily the only egg I've had pop in the bator was a coturnix egg...but it still stunk. I'm glad the oozing goose egg didn't get that far this spring, could you imagine an exploding goose egg??

Probably would have had to burn the house down to get rid of that smell.

Don't feel bad last week I was cleaning out a nest of old eggs from where I broody had been two of the eggs didn't hatch. When I picked one up it pop, sounded like a shoot gun going off and it blew up all over me. I had took a shower and everything I could still get wift of that smell every now and then. Just apart of chicken business I guess.

I just got done cooking some eggs. Mind you, they were mixed breeds on the bantam, and the LF are infertile. Yummy, best egg samiches!

I can't eat them anyways, so most likely they'd be fed to the birds.

Yeah, I am keeping the incubators on and incubating the silkies, marans, and whatnots

I do eat the excess eggs though, especially duck eggs (my cakes are yummy with them!)

well I got my little call from the hen this afternoon! It looks happy and healthy! It is a little ticked to be by itself right now, I hope the others hurry up lol, I checked and 2 of the three I candled had moved into the aircell, so it shouldnt be much longer! I havent a clue what color it is, after it dried... I decided it probably isnt an australian spotted greenhead.... I will post a pic soon, also an update on the turkey, it is doing great, eating and drinking lots! To all of the exploding egg people.....ew.... that is why I candle a lot LOL... I dont have a BUNCH of eggs though I know some of you incubate hundreds at a time, that would be difficult to candle... I just check what I have and it it is gone I toss it. I do NOT want an exploding egg... yuck

I could use them in cakes, but I sure don't need that much cake! I don't think I have enough benadryl to be able to eat them though
