oh and several people have mentioned insulating, from what ive been reading, if you get the right breed a little insulation will go a long way, we insulated ours full just like if you were to build a home with the pink panther stuff in the studs framed it just like a house and insulated it much the same.

anyone raising pure breeds let me know what you have, id like to get one breed going and setup some form of trading system so we can keep our stocks strong over the next few years if i can find several with the same breed.

I'm just north of muskoka and have buff orpingtons who are now 3.5 months. Our coop is also insulated, but the floor isn't which I'm regretting now!

We're goi
my floor isnt either ;[

We're going to do the deep litter method. With lots of straw for insulation on the bottom with lots of pine shavings on top for absorbency. We are not planning to use a heat lamp but I am not beyond hauling them all in to sleep in the dog crate if it gets too cold!!

i plan on having too many for that.
did you insulate the roof? and what dimentions does your coop have? width length and what height?

and.. mine is designed so i can pile the snow around it to insultate in winter..problem is if its cold and we dont have snow.

I live near Peterborough in Ontario. I have insulated the floor and am insulating the walls with sheep fleese! My baby Barred Rocks are just a week old so hope to get all done soon. They are growing so fast I am panicking to finish it in a few weeks. Don't lnow how long they can stay in the house in my brooder!!
