Oozing nastiness coming from chickens rear side

Ya know what scares me about this? Where the heck did it come from? I read through most of that info posted and other than the compromised immunities of the Marek's survivors, I'm not seeing a link here. House is clean, or as clean as you can keep a chicken house without the use of a powerwasher. It is washed completely with a bleach and water mix and then rinsed out with a hose and clear water at least once a month in the coldest to twice a month in the not. It is aired every day from 1 hour in the sub zero temps to open all day in the temps above freezing. Their roost is sprayed daily with a vinegar and water mix as are the nest boxes. Shavings are removed or added to as the need comes up, usually every other day for adding to once a week removal. I'm carful, lol, I eat their eggs. At least I thought I was careful. They haven't seen an antibiotic in the layers room since last Summer. This just keeps getting curiouser and curiouser......

t;hey dont get candida from somewhwere; it is already in their system. everyone has it, just like we all have various organizms in our gut. even e.coli. just taht when the immune system goes haywire (like mareks, or any other illness, or simple changes causing stress) then the system goes nuts. that is why us ladies get what we get when we are stressed out, or lacking sleep, or eating junk food... that is why some poeple get ringworm (fungus /also a candida i think) all over and systematically, and others get a small sore adn its gone. which is why poorer people used to have ringworm more often: bad diet, stress (cold apartments in winter, etc)...

in a healthy environment, or in a healthy animal, the organisms dont go bezerk.
of course between male and female the fungus goes back and forth, because the area is warm moist, and the action causes slight friction or even irritation so that it is a good atmosphere for a yeast infection to develop. anyone ever get the lab resulst back from a vaginal smear: mixed flora/fauna - use a polidine suppository or nyastin suppository... there ya go... same same for your girls (hens)...

while symptomatic treatments work, the main treatment is to get to the cause : if it were a goat id be giving b vitamins and probiotics, but being a hen, not sure. yogurt? vitamins? rescue drops? ihave to say, while not a major believer in all things 'alternative' i have to say that for yeastie beasties, thats usually the way to go, both internally and externally.

im wondering also if a 'jock itch'/army cream -like a baby tush (bottom) diaper rash cream smeared on her vent might also protect from external irritation until the whole thing clears? jsut thinking out loud, no experience here, although with dogs and goats, again, this works wonders.

What would work great, but can't get it any more, is boric acid ointment. Heals, sooths and kills the bacteria. Instead I used the nystatin ointment [100,000USP] amount the size of a pea and mixed it with double amount of KY. Figured the nystatin will do it's job and the KY will keep everything moist so it doesn't cake on her. My house os so darned dry! She looks a lot better today! Still not 100% but you wouldn't believe it's the same girl. It's about time for her "Spa Treatment' now. I'll put the water into the tub and just let her relax for a bit. After the complaints of being handled and moved she really seems to like the warmth of the water and it's probably helping with the itch/burn. It's funny, she just zones right out and I have to make sure she doesn't fall over asleep. She finally has a name as well Glinnie.

Should be interesting to see what results the three of us get... I just gave my hen a bunch of Nystatin orally via "the tube", squeezed some 2% miconazole into her vent and coated the outside area with both the cream and powder.

Weight - 2.5kg, crop was a little squishy, but she might have had something to drink earlier. No mites/lice seen, but will dust later today and I'll probably worm her, too. Took lots of pictures, will post later.

As soon as i can get the swelling or I should say protrusion down, I am going to be getting the cream as well. Still haven't weighed them, duh! Giving the vinegar in their water and Flock Raiser, meal worms and what ever else I can get them to eat. Seem to be doing that just fine and drinking as well. Some preening today as well.

Did you take pictures?

Three hands, lol! You need to come to my poultry handling school and learn how to tube feed and take pictures with just two hands!:p

Lol! While fighting off the rooster as well? It's a trip isn't it? If you think about what we do for our birds it's really staggering. Tube feeding is something I'm not sure I could do because first you have to figure out how to open their mouths, lol.

No roosters on my kitchen counters today!
