Opal Old English Games on Eggbid, I have questions :)

Congratulations, Ron!
You have something new and you can prove it is not lavender...

What I would like to know next is how it affects the gold groundcolor. Lavender dilutes the gold also to isabel.

Do you still have the crosslings from the opal/partridge or opal/wheaten cross?
If you mate those together you could get the combination opal and partridge/wheaten with "opal breasted red(?)" roosters.

I have not crossed with wheaton so far. I did get a lot of different looks from the BBred crosses the cockriels looked like dark brown reds not as dark of color as the BBred cock but darker than any brown reds that I have ever seen the pullets have the greatest range of color some are black some are black with red in the hackle like a brown red 1 looks like a BBred but with darkslate legs, a few look like brassie backs with the yellow brass and some look like red brassies. So far with my first 3 chicks (2 Opal 1 black ) hatched from pen #9 Opal male on 5 of these BBred cross females.

Just an update. ...
The Standard has been sent to the APA club Secretary and judge for review and modification recommendation prior to submition. We are now one step closer, the birds will be closely examined in shawnee this year by several to assist in recommendations. We have a little work ahead of us now to get there but the process is well under way. I still need to hear from some breeders and showmen of the variety to finalize some of the other details.

The opal color is really cool, I'm guessing that its just like when you make a new variety that no one has seen before, he made the standard to what he wants it to look like.

Henk, are you a geneticist? I have seen your website and it is fascinating all the different genetic calculators you have and the crosses that you have don to make really cool looking birds.

OK, that makes sense.

I really like the opals! I was watching the auction for the trio but have been really trying to get my silkie flock to where I want them before adding another breed. OEGBs are in the running though...maybe in the spring.
