Opa's place -Where an old rooster visits with friends

There are some things in life for which there are no answers. Things we must accept at face value simply because they are. Such is the case for today, a day to be celibrated, the anniversary of the birth of my of darlin' daughter. The unanswerable question? How is it possible for her to become more beautiful the longer I know her? Happy birthday dear Thistle . Co` latha breith sona dhuibh!

Yesterday was April Fools Day and I certainly lived up to it and evidently the slow journey into senility has picked up speed.

Concern over having all of the chicks that belonged to others out in my coop had kept me from sleeping adequately. A couple of years ago I lost some chicks when the night time temperatures dropped and the heat lamp was to high to make up for the loss. I didn't want to risk that happening with these so I kept going out to make sure they were alright. Then the post office calls in what was still the middle of the night to have me pick up the second batch of birds. Hence I was functioning on practically no sleep.

Last night I was sitting in my recliner thinking about how much I had enjoyed visiting with everyone when delivering their birds and how the friends I have made on BYC have become very dear to me. I vaguely remember a movie was on television and something about a birthday party. Suddenly I'm thinking today was the first and tomorrow is the second. The second? The Highlander birthday is on the second. I'd better get up and post before I fall asleep, can't have her thinking I forgot her. With eyes barely able to focus I pecked on the keys and my electronic missive is on its way.

This morning as I sat waiting for the coffee to perk I suddenly remembered posting the birthday wishes. You stupid old fool. Hurry maybe you will be fortunate and find that no one has logged on to the site. Maybe you can edit before anyone discovers the truth in the old adage that there is no fool like an old fool. Alas that was not to be. So now my darlin' Thistle the whole world now knows what you've have maintained all along, I am officially old and senile.

It's okay Sam, we all have those moments. I do things like that even when I've HAD enough sleep! Now that the chicks have moved on you can get some rest.

Well, heck, Happy Birthday anyways! Cool thing is, you get to have a birthday without getting any older!

I've got 6 duck eggs that are pipped now (is that the word for it?). Little poke marks? Anyways, they've been rocking and rolling and peeping since last night. They still haven't gotten any further than a little poke, though. One egg looks different from the rest. I noticed this morning that it looked really dark on the fat end. There aren't any pokes in that one. I have seen it rock, though. As the day has progressed, the dark look has spread, and I can't tell if the little one is still moving. Does anyone know what that means? And how long should it take for them to hatch? Is it normal that they haven't made any progress? Sorry, this is my first time. I almost wish I hadn't quit smoking 3 years ago. LOL!

Good afternoon! Loving this 70 degree weather

I am finally warm!
Tested all Rachel birds this morning so we can be NPIP. Didn't realize she has 43 plus the 30 today in the mail!

Evening everyone. Hope you all had a good day.
Opa the emu egg carving is wonderful. You certainly did a beautiful job on it.
Sally hope your DH is continuing to improve every day.
Maggie so glad you got some new cochins. I have to figure out a way to tell DH we will be hatching some duck eggs next week...still pondering that one.

Highlander Happy birthday-hope it's a wonderful one for you!
YakLady Congrats on the pips on your duck eggs. We'll be waiting for photos once they're hatched.
Boy you can tell it's spring in SE Texas-DH and I each killed a snake yesterday. Goes on clear through late fall. Before anyone tells me I need to just catch them and move them somewhere-if you want them, send me your address and I will happily forward a hissing, striking box-o-snakes to you(at my expense).

I do show mercy to garter snakes, spotted king snakes and the like. Copperheads, Mocs, Stub Tails, Chicken Snakes-shame on 'em if they come around here!
Anyhow-hope you all have a great night!
