Open front coop done, chicken yard in progress

Pics
Good looking birds IM! I sure like the colors of that one in front in the first picture.

Yea, too bad he pecks the hand that feeds him. And my feet. He's also a jerk to the rest of the flock so he's likely destined for the bbq. The big dude next to him though...he's pretty chill so far and might be the keeper.

Ha!! Now you've changed it!

Yes'm I happened to be selecting a pic when I saw your post. It was time for an update.

You butcher your birds right? How do you choose your roo? I have a few as you can see. Eye candy isn't my concern, and I'm ok with selecting for behavior. Would you pick the biggest roo if he met all your other needs? I like the little guy in my avatar but he's not as big as the others. Great personality though.

Only time I've had to pick 1, out of 4, it was rough, I went back and forth for weeks deciding. Wanted a Marans(to make OE's with Cream Legbars) and hatched out 3 blues and 1 black, breeder obviously was an amateur and didn't keep them separate, none were perfect. I actually gave away a few of the chicks, probably should have kept them all. I kept the black because he had the biggest body and I wanted meatier cockerels...didn't really play out as they were more like the CL's body wise.
It's a tough call, depends on your goals which you pick, even then can be a crap shoot.

Thank you. I really want to keep the little black dood but that big boy keeps drawing my eye. Another person said to keep a backup...I don't know if I can do that. My yard might not be big enough for two. I think those will be the ladt 2 to go though until I decide.
