Open front coop done, chicken yard in progress

I think they're like any other...probably around 6 months so not for a bit yet. I still have to figure out nests so hopefully not too soon. Igor wants me to use the plastic ones but I said no. We need something more open with better air flow for them. It's not about our convenience but their welfare.

I agree 100%...a lot of times what we have to do for our birds isn't at our convenience.

I wonder if something like a wooden crate would work. Maybe along these lines, just cut down on one side?

For clarification, sitting on the bottoms and cut down the front so they can hop in?

Maybe just remove top one or two slats, on longer 'side' or shorter 'end'.
Could even do that to two of them and flip one over to make a 'roof'..a more enclosed nest. I have no idea how big those crates are tho.

I think either way, maybe a crate (or something similar) would give you some air flow. Crates come in various sizes...I've seen smaller ones at craft/hobby shops but was thinking more along the lines of an orange/apple crate.

I like it! Definitely airflow and if I stacked them they would feel enclosed. I'll look at the craft stores here, they have various sizes available.

Picked up hatching eggs yesterday and the nn peep, it's about a week old and was a late hatcher so never had any chicks with it before. Since it needed a friend I added a white Leghorn pullet as a buddy. They're sleeping together in the dirt bin.
