Windy today, knocked over some wood and blew a nest box off the picnic table where I had it sitting in the sun to dry. I got almost all the remaining rock out of the yard. There's a couple wheelbarrow loads in a corner hidden by the small coop to come out yet. Few snaps of the flock from this evening.

14+ weeks NFC. I've decided to keep the little bare necked dood and the big blue guy for now. The other 4 boys are headed to freezer camp in the next couple of weeks.

More chicks in September and then I'll decide who stays when they grow out.

Yay, at least a temporary reprieve for the little dood! About what age do you expect the girls to start laying...are they any earlier or later than the usual DP breeds?

I think they're like any other...probably around 6 months so not for a bit yet. I still have to figure out nests so hopefully not too soon. Igor wants me to use the plastic ones but I said no. We need something more open with better air flow for them. It's not about our convenience but their welfare.
