Anyone here have an open front coop?
They wouldn't be the best choice for shamos, bantam modern games or any delicate breed but IMO any heritage fowl would be well suited to this style of housing

Mine is similar to this one but its 8'x16'

John S Martin of white wyandotte fame had quite a few of these houses for many years and grew top quality birds by the thousands.

Here's mine. It has proved to be a good design for me, more so for my chickens.

Very Nice Jack!
Did you come up with the design on your own?
No, I got the design from an old book, 'Fresh air poultry houses' by Prince T. Woods, printed in the early 1900s, that I got from Amazon. The book had basic plans in it for the coop. It also has other open air designs in it. Plus a lot of good general info on chickens.

I have the same book plus the newer reprinted edition.
I did the same thing you did except I have an expanded metal floor in the front 8' section with trays underneath.
Solid floor in the rear 8' section with a wood pellet/shaving bedding that seems to stay very dry.
Very impressed with mine so far..
Even in harsh weather the birds seem to really do well.
