Opinion on mixing chicks?

I just put 7 one day olds and 2 one week olds together yesterday afternoon. I watched carefully for a while, then left them when it seemed clear that they were getting along. Ironically, the younger ones were the "pecky" ones...and it was just the same curiosity-driven foot and beak pecking that the very young chicks normally engage in. I wouldn't try this kind of integration if I wasn't able to (at least initially) check on them frequently, though.

A bonus to having a couple of older ones in there is that the littles emulate them and seem quicker to eat, drink, jump atop the MHP...they really seem more active and confident than when it's just a group of the freshly-hatched ones. :)

I agree with #foodfreedomnow, the chicks seem to be more active, curious, easy better, and have a bigger chick to hide under. You can kinda see the babies under the older grey one in this pic.
