When my current young flock of 9 week olds is in the main coop in a couple months, we are thinking of selling the little Firetower Coop my DH and I built. It is a hexagon, 6 ft across at the widest points, and stands on four 4x4's that are buried in the ground (not in cement). The flooring is tongue 'n groove thin pine wall paneling so not much weight in the floor. I'm thinking maybe the 4x4's could be cut off so it would sit well on a trailer for transport. Not 100% sure we want to sell it because it would be a good small coop for a broody with chicks, but we don't want it occupied long term since we both have trouble getting into it for cleaning with our back issues.

To help you decide, I've included some pics of it during construction so you can guage weight. We will probably build a walk-in coop later on if we decide to replace it.

Here in Oregon Probably only a couple in Georgia who knows? lol it looks to me its around 200 lbs but an awkward carry I think 4 for ease, and no more bad backs would do it.

You're gonna sell it??!! I remember when ya'll built it!

I think 3 or 4 good sized guys should be able to move it. Or if you can get it on a skid and pull from down there on a small tractor.

I can't believe you are thinking of selling it.

It's sooo cute! Did you use those star plates from strombergs? Or just decide to make it that shape? That would be cute to have a bantam chicken "village" of those coops, LOL! I think a few guys should be able to move it...my dad and my husband moved a 3 x 6 x 7 coop about 30 feet through a back yard and lifted it into our truck bed...my "sniper tower" coop...which has been sitting for almost two years and is still empty!

If I lived closer.... That is beautiful!!!
I think 3 or 4 men can handle that. And I'm sure each of them THINK they can do it alone....

I wasn't really sure how many big guys it would take to move it or if it could safely be done. Yep, my DH decided to experiment and build this cool shape. I only asked for a simple rectange, LOL. Most of the lumber came from a log home building site (with permission from the foreman). I just had to buy roll roofing, and paint for the color scheme we wanted. I'd say, based on formula for the area of a hexagon, it has about 27 sf. You could actually build a base just like this and make this the top part of a double decker, I'd think. Then it would look like a real tower!

I keep going back and forth on selling it only because it would be a convenient location for a broody hen. We prefer a walk-in coop mainly because of DH's back issues. It's not that hard to get into, though, really.

DH said no one would be interested in buying this little coop. Now, I've already had someone say she's interested in it, so

to DH. LOL. What I'll do it sell it, enclose the pen where the hole would be from it being removed and have a separation pen without a coop. Later on, we could build a walk-in one if we needed to.
