My barn, which house goats is not heated and is only about 10 degrees warmer than the coop. I considered moving them in there to create more heat amongst them all. But it’s not ready for chickens and there is more in there they could get hurt on so i think it would do more harm than good.
When i took them all fresh water this morning they were all in the same spirits as usual! Acting like have never been fed and chatting up a storm. They are active and seem like they are doing fine. On super cold days like this i do mix their crumbles with warm water to make a hot oatmeal like mash. I do one in the morning and one right before sunset to get some warm food in their crop to keep them nice and warm through the night.
I am learning though that the coop will need some more reinforcing this spring to prep it for next winter. Maybe when it’s 50 this weekend i can seal some of the cracks!
