Oprah at the beef packing plant-Feb 1

True... It must hurt those widdle plants when you rip them from the ground...

Interesting you mention that. Some time back DH found a study being done that showed that plants do feel pain. And double bummer because being rooted they don't have the option of flight, at all. Basically shackled and being hacked at with knives... I'd find that scary as all get out. If that proves true and word spreads I wonder what the vegans will eat then? Or will they, perhaps, accept that in the cycle of life one dies so another lives who then dies and feeds another... and quit harping?

I for one do not think the slaughter house is the worst part of Ag... Far worse is the conditions of the animals having to live out their lives in CAFO's or production poultry houses, being fed a slew of medicines, hormones and chemicals along with a diet that is very unnatural for the animals.

A dead animal is a dead animal.. Blood guts and all, as long as the dispatch is clean (Which it is!) it is far less nasty than the conditions of raising the animals.

Better watch out with bringing it to peoples attention that plants have feelings too.... Think about those billions of corn stalks that are cut down to feed those CAFO animals....

(Also you be tossing in your support for those that believe in pastured poultry and beef being a superior product.... When an animal grazes it only gives the plant a hair cut, and does not kill the plant...!)

Lots of different opinions on animals and what is fair, respectable treatment... IMO what happens/how one is treated while alive is what counts! Not what happens after death. (This applies to humans as well as livestock..

When corn, wheat, or soybeans are combined, the plants are already dead. Don't think you can kill them 2X.

I know Jim has asked, so I'll ask again. What meds, hormones, chemicals are being fed? This comment is tossed out by many. Poultry diet you buy is same one fed by commercial poultry. Same goes for every species. Can we stop with this stereotype?

It was Lisa Ling with a film crew, not Oprah herself (I should change the name of the thread to add "Show". If I knew how I would). The segment might be 4-6 minutes and is not a repeat. What is a CAFO?

Good one!... Indeed they are already dead, nope can not kill them twice... Does that make eating annuals OK?? (Darn I produce lettuce and murder the innocent plants before the go to seed, denying them the right to natural reproduction.... I am so evil...

OK................................................
I really do not want to get into it, but last I checked a bag of chicken feed has a whole list of stuff in it that does not read like, wheat, corn, oats and so forth...

Lots of chemical compounds, stuff made in a laboratory or factory. I personally do not feed commercial poultry feed....)

I do take issue, I do not believe the practices and the feed recipes are the same in large poultry houses as in commercial feed sold to the back yard poultry enthusiast..

More? What stereotype??????? Simple facts.. Why hide them?

Lets see off the top of my head?
rGBH (Hormone used in dairy to get more milk.. ie bigger profits)

Antibiotics (Medicine/growth stimulator, medicine because animals are always sick from forced confinement and unnatural feeds, also used to increase feed conversion (Remember unnatural feed) also used for weight gain)
See here on antibiotics: (Long list)

I say to each his/her own.... Me... I grow my own or buy local, where I can see what is going on... I do not trust big corperate farms, doing what ever it takes to maximize their profits... No Tyson chicken for me....

Once again all I can say to this is

I am soooooo stinking sick of crap like this being posted as fact. All animals are not pumped full of antibiotics, hormones and chemicals....nor are all animals raised in confinement sick.

I don't give a rat's patootie what anyone eats....or doesn't eat. I guess if you want to keep believing this hooey as fact be my guest.

Your head sore yet Katy?
I've argued that same point with people, but none want to hear it.

Maybe instead of watching Oprah they should turn on the RFD-TV and learn the truth's.

LOL....it's on the verge of exploding I think!!!!

They don't want the truth......the truth wouldn't give them any villian to fight against or any cause to fight for. They'd have to find something else to p&m about.
