Ordered eggs... so not happy

I wish the post office would treat hatching eggs just as they treat live animals. When I order chicks, they always call me, even before opening time, so I can come get them. When I order eggs, the box always has my phone number and instructions to call me, but they never do. Instead I sign up for that "tracking update" feature and when I see that they've arrived at my post office, I'm there when the doors open to get my eggs before they're put on the delivery truck. It's not perfect, but it's better than the alternative!

While I think inside packing makes a huge difference, I believe certain postal hubs are much more rough on eggs than others. Some boxes can make it perfectly safe and clean to their destination, while others are beat all to hell. Always check the location of the seller to see what the likely route would be.

Sorry you had such a bad experience :( I used to ship similarly to this seller, including using wood shavings as a packing material (in fact, I still do) but I wrapped the eggs in bubble wrap inside the egg cartons.

Nowadays I double box all my eggs. My buyers have to pay more for shipping since it costs more, but the eggs are safer.

On the Fragile thing, I have stickers I use that say Live Embryos, but I have had over the years some customers ask me not to write Fragile on the box, because USPS employees are actually rougher with boxes marked Fragile.

"One disheartening result was that our package received more abuse when marked "Fragile" or "This Side Up." The carriers flipped the package more, and it registered above-average acceleration spikes during trips for which we requested careful treatment."
A couple of comments and I will not belabor the topic anymore. When the topic about turning and twisting was discussed I was referring to point of delivery carriers not the company. I read the survey and do not dispute it’s accuracy. But I will say that there are a host of factors that would have to be observed in the process and discussed to be more conclusive about outcomes. As generally has been observed you should find a good shipper you are happy with and a good company you are happy with and stick with them. Anyway, all sides of a discussion are enlightening and that is what forums are for. Sorry, not the quote I meant to attach.

I've heard some do not label the box fragile because they think it's more likely to get beat up by crapheads .

"Those marked fragile seem to be targets of abuse. Most of the postal handling is done by machines anyway. Please let us know if you want the box to be marked “Hold for Pickup” with your phone number. "

I received 10 Chocolate Orpington eggs through ebay and you should have seen how these were shipped!!! Each egg was placed in a section of swimming pool noodle that had been split lengthwise and then wrapped with a rubber band. Each noodled egg was placed in a good sized box with no additional packing and this first box was placed inside another much larger box. There was no packing in between boxes so one box slid and bounced around inside the other. The noodled eggs bounced around inside the first box. I knew the second I opened the box that they wouldn't hatch, but tried anyway. None hatched. I wrote the seller telling her how disappointed I was in the packaging and that I didn't believe in hurting someone's business if the problem could be "fixed" therefore I didn't leave feedback. Perhaps I should have. She said that she had good hatch rates from her customers. I suggested several ways that would improve her packaging, but doubt that she implemented them. Buyer beware!
