LG has tried whip, unsuccessfully on pear. I had a friend come over and do a cleft graft on the same root stock a few weeks ago. I'm gonna keep grafting that root stock every year until I'm successful, or until I kill it.

I've never been successful on bud grafting. I'm 3 for maybe 15 on whip grafting.

Also called Peaceful Heritage Nursery and Farm. I have gotten several trees from here and they were a good size when they came, not just sticks. The owner is also very good at getting back with you about any questions you may have. I have a Winesap and a Black Arkansas apple, a nectarine, and two PawPaw trees from here. They have picked up several "local", hertage strains too. Some I had never heard of before.

we ordered about 30 trees this year from e burgess co. and i wouldnt recommend them. it could be a whole slew of reasons but just the fact you have to have the original shipping label for replacement is kind of a pain. we lost all but the 6 willows and 3 birch. we also ordered 18 thuja green giants which are supposed to be one of the fastest growing trees and i swear they havent done a thing. but we are still watching them just in case. the prices were incredibly reasonable but i wouldnt recommend mail order trees period to anyone. go with something you can see, inspect, touch, and closer to you in case you do lose any. i should add ours were all bare root if that matters, but we did follow every instruction and water constantly. its just so disappointing when you lose them regardless of the costs its money spent and id rather not spend it twice like we have this year. good luck with your search....

Sorry, I see this thread is a bit old, but in case you are still shopping for fruit trees/shrubs: I have ordered white cedar from Musser Forests (all died), saskatoon berries from Burnt Ridge Orchard (all survived), apples and white cedar from Jung Seed in WI (all survived), and apple from Park Seed (it was packaged TERRIBLY and the trunk broke in transit, but it did survive). That is all I can think of. My top recommendation for your list of requirements would be Jung Seed. Their stock is grown in Wisconsin so it is cold adapted and should do pretty well in your climate.

The other excellent fruit tree buying experience was buying from a local nursery. Local nurseries tend to stock things that do well in your area.

What's your favorite Mail Order company for ordering trees/shrubs? Who have you used that has good stock with good livability. I need to use a northern company to get stock that will do well in my climate. I have a hole in my orchard that needs to be plugged with a peach tree. Also want to order one or more Juneberry shrubs.
Hello! I'm pretty late to this conversation, but I love Jung Seed Co. It was highly recommended to me, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a pear tree from them last year. It arrived in great condition - very good size, and large root system. It grew well last year, survived a Minnesota winter well, and is growing gangbusters now. I would definitely recommend Jung Seeds to anyone!
