Oregon Fall Poultry Swap - October 22 - Corvallis @ the Fairgrounds!!!

X2! We want you to be able to come! It's been too long since we've seen you

Jeanine, that sounds great, thank you for your offers to help with those things! I will have the keys the night before so I can be there early to set up and will stay as late as needed to clean. My daughter has had a change of heart about Reed (more like our bank account did lol) so she will be there to help too since she will be at the OSU Honors college instead. I might even be able to talk my husband and son into helping clean up if needed. I do think a clean up committee would be nice though just to make sure we get it all done before our midnight cut off time

I'm really not overly worried about covering all the rental fee - I'm not stressing that much or I wouldn't have suggested this building at this cost - just anything to offset it a bit would be good. I still think it's the best choice and the swap is going to be fantastic! Just think, we don't have to worry about the weather, we will have heat, lights and electricity and lots and lots of traffic from the other events (hopefully!

I'm going to throw this out here now too so it can be in the back of your minds....

Jeanine and I need a 3rd person to help organize the swaps in the southern half of the valley (Eugene south) - the next one being in the Spring of 2012. We usually all work together to get it done - the three core planners and all the members attending - but it is nice to have one person from each specific area to help set up the space, keep up the list, maps, information etc. I won't lie, it's a lot of work and gets really crazy in the last weeks but it's also fun. I don't think we want to take the southern swaps past the Cottage Grove area (give or take) - Roseburg probably being the farthest.

So if anyone from that area wants to get involved, let us know by the time this swap rolls around!

That's too bad it didn't work out for her to go to Reed, BUT she'll be closer to home, and still at a GREAT school!

I was thinking "clean up committee" just so those of us who come early to set up, etc, aren't necessarily the ones staying the latest at the end too....

Good thinking on the cleaning committee....

Yes, it's been a very stressful few days with all the numbers flying around and of course, her disappointment, but my daughter is smart in all ways (little bragging here lol) - graduating with a 300K + debt is not something she really wants to do

OSU is still a good school with all the same requirements for graduating - thesis, higher GPA throughout the whole 4 years, etc - and very small classes, 12-15 students max. It will work out

She will still be moving out this summer but at least she will be closer

I like the raffle table with items and name thing! I'll see if I can't get more byc stuff, and I'll throw in a bottle of vanilla for a raffle item. 315 is a lot of money! That is about what I have budgeted on food a month for two people including any eating out! I don't think a donation can will be enough.

I can help be part of the clean up crew in the end since I am so close I can come back later if I can't be there the whole time... but it is far enough out I think I can get the day "off" from lab to be around.

Good choice on the college debt thing....save that up for med school! LOL You'll need it then!

You can still get a lot out of public schools, oh, and about big classes, they really aren't so bad. 800 student first year chem, biology, calc classes back at UW was almost like a 5 person class if you took the time to go to the professor... really, it was! They call them weeder classes for a reason. Plus, with the average set at 2.0, it made getting a good grade real eas. LOLz

Yep, definitely a good choice on the college thing. We thought we could make it happen, but the numbers just aren't there and if anyone can make numbers work it's my husband! She will be moving out to live with friends, living expenses for over a year paid for by her grandmother and lots of scholarships to pay for most of the 4 years. It's all good. However I just got the news that my other daughter (adopted one) Coral is moving to Canada in August! She got the acceptance letter just now from a private college in Edmonton Canada. My house is going to be way too quiet! My brain is spinning though....two extra bedrooms for chickens...

I like the raffle idea and sounds like a great deal. I will also bring a basket of "something" for the raffle. Maybe there could just be a "donation" above that from BYC sellers/etc? Just a thought. It is sure great to have someone doing the getting/planning/scheduling for all of us so I think raffle and donations are both options.

I think raffle donations are a good idea too. I will bring something to raffle.

On a side note, for those of us who have never before been able to go to a swap, does anyone have pics from a prior swap they could post so us newbies know what to expect? My poor roomates (who I informed yesterday that they are going with me without giving them a chance to protest) keep asking me what to expect and they want details. I don't know what to tell them! I am sure it will be great, but they are skeptical and unsatisfied with my vague guesses.
