Wow, you guys are really lucky your hawks don't have a taste for chicken! I had a tiny little hawk start killing birds through fencing last year, and bloodied several others that were lucky enough to get away...

Yeah, as much as I respect hawks and appreciate their place in this world, I wouldn't knowingly dance with the devil. They took 2 of my favorite most beautiful silkies that I thought were under safe cover.

I think we're okay. The only ones we're worried about are the Americaunas and bantam Americaunas. The Orps weigh about ten times what the hawks do, maybe more, and the Dominiques are more likely to eat the hawks than the other way around. The Americauna roosters do a pretty good job keeping an eye out, and the bantam Americaunas go out with a couple of LF hens so I think that deters the smaller birds of prey. If the hawks land, our chickens chase them off.

I may have a Saxony drake and possibly a welsh harlequin drake for the swap (or table if I get brave). Do you guys all agree a saxony would be too heavy a drake to leave in with a w. harlequin hen(s)?

So they get the mites from other birds?

What about house chickens? If they are only let out during supervised times, are they still at risk for getting these creepy crawlies? I have inside dogs and they treated for fleas, so know do I worry about by chicken babies?

Thanks

Yep, if they go out in the grass, they are susceptible to mites, lice, etc. Just check them regularly. If they are house chickens, I'm sure you already handle them a lot, you'll likely know if/when they get them.

Hey,
I have been checking my jewelry resourses and have found lots of jewelry items relating to chickens.
ya.gif
Beads, charms, etc. I'm going to get started now
caf.gif
(need to stop buying and start making!!) jewelry items to sell at the swap.
hu.gif
I was hoping to have some for the spring one, but due to lack of time and other matters,
he.gif
I ran out of time. So I have a ton of things ordered and the time, shouldn't have any problems for the fall swap.
fl.gif

I am leaving town for a couple of weeks this fall, but since I know early enough, I can arrange and work around the time of the swap. Big class reunion this fall. 30 years since graduation! I didn't feel old till that announcement!
th.gif
I DON"T FEEL THAT OLD! and
hu.gif
WHAT HAPPENED! and WHERE DID ALL THAT TIME GO!!
hide.gif
Ok got that over with.
I shouldn't need awhole big table, I wouldn't think.
hu.gif
So I could either bring a small one or share one??? Either way I'm easy. Aaaa,
hide.gif
not easy, errr,
duc.gif
you know what I mean.
sickbyc.gif

We look to have plenty of time,
clap.gif
so I just thought I would throw that out there to see what happens.
ya.gif
And did I read, that there is a campground closeby the fairgrounds or was that another place that had been suggested?
hu.gif
I was thinking I might show up the day before and either camp or hotel, what ever was closest...I quess I need to google this fairground. I can't remember if I been there or not. My husband and I did some Renaissance Faires a few years ago down in that area, but I don't have any idea where at now.
he.gif
So I might grab a dog for protection and chickens for companions and do a night of camping if the weather permits.

Thanks,

Paula
