I don't know either. Did you candle the remaining ones yet? Terri up in WA had to crack one out of the shell last night. It was Day 23, the chick couldn't break through the egg. Once they took the shell off it pushed its way out and is doing great. They lost 1 and the other didn't finish. They had broody issues. Broody's aren't always reliable either so don't feel bad.

I did candle eggs tonight. No movement in any eggs and some started looking watery. So I decided to start cracking the eggs.

All were dead.

They all had started. Only 2 had come close. (they had almost developed into a chick)

They were very small, but had feathers and looked somewhat like a chick. One of these had looked like it was maybe a day or two from hatching, but the other still had a large yolk(ish) attachement. The other 5 were all at different stages of developments. I did some research on egg hatching, and I think I came up with that maybe my incubator temp maybe too high. The thermometer reads 99.5, but maybe it reads low. I've read that too high temps may result in early hatches or incomplete hatches. (Which is exactly what I had)

It still sucks

So sorry. I hate it when that happens. It can be such a let down after waiting 3 weeks for your eggs to hatch..... I hope your one little chick does okay. Maybe you will have to see if you can find another little chick to bring home for company.... Sorry.

I may be inyerested in both of those types of chicks. I have been thinking of getting some barnevelders...and blue orps.

Awesome. I'll let you know how they go in the next few weeks!

Give me a few days to think about hatching again. I'm at the stage were I'm real close to throwing the bator into the wall!

I'm going to call a breeder that I got my turkey and ducks from. She lives in Ridgefield, so she is close. She is were I also got the d'Uccles from. I'm going to see what she has that has just hatched, so I will have a buddy for Number1. I'm hoping whe has somekind of bantam available, so it will be small, but I will settle for anything that has just hatched.

Oh, I also forgot, but I got a second egg from Jonnie today. I still don't think they are fertile. I wasn't planning on breeding them. Frankie seems pretty cockie about the the eggs! He is the one that actually 'tells' me about them!

Oh, not pushing at all Paula...just offering if you ever want them. I know how you feel. It is very frustrating and it does make you want to throw the incubator at the wall! I hope the breeder can get you a little one

HeyPaula

If you want to meet up this week I can bring you that button quail. He's kind if lonely too and is growing SUPER fast he's probably about the size of a serama chick now. He's so cute but definitely a little lonely.

Forgot about that little guy. He would be closer to Number1's size. He is so tiny. But now I'm afraid he isn't going to survive. Failure to survive, it is called. I am force feeding him now and making sure he has water. I have him in my bra, right now. I'll let you know about meeting up. Give me a day or two, just to make sure he makes it.
Thanks,

Haven't been keeping up with the thread, but does anyone know who may have giant cochins or orpington eggs? Put my 7 year old flock master just passed away so need to grow myself up a new flock master and am seeking a rooster in the 10+ lb range. The new roo is going to have some big shoes to fill, Caleb was 1/4 blue cochin and 3/4 BLRW and was in a music video as a youth.

I'm going to be putting some orp eggs into the bator in the next few days. I also have a fellow BYCer that is possibly going to send me her English Orp eggs in trade for some culinary wonders. They wouldn't be very old at the point of the swap. Are you looking for something that's mature or juvenile?

Sorry you're having to replace the fella though 7 years seems like a pretty good life for a roo.
