Yup, not silly at all. I'm new to this too so I appreciate all the good answers you got. I'm really looking forward to some heirloom tomatoes with softer skins!! Mine feel like leather this year.

Thats not due just to variety. That's been more to do with our weather. I have 25 varieties of heirloom tomatoes planted and quite a few of those have "leathery" skins. Though as far as flavor, texture and just plain beauty go the heirlooms are SO the way to go! I have one called Pink Berkely Tie Dye and it looks like it's tie died literally. If you hold a slice up in the light, it looks like a stained glass window! And the flavor is

Sounds fantastic. Can I ask here you got your seeds?

Well the buzz of the day...and causing quite a bit of excitement...is Napoleon and Fawn (my hen from Juliette) threw a silkied frizzle Serama! Not sure how that happened, but it did lol. She is a girl too!

I've offered her to Beckie since I got Napoleon from her but if she doesn't want her, she will be up for sale

She is very cool looking - chocolatey brown with gold edges so far. I'm really excited!!!! I'm just dying to see what my actual silkied frizzle pen throws now! 21 days is toooooo long!

And even more excited, a friend who just hatched out my eggs also got one yesterday!! Same identical chick

Do you collect seeds? And are you going to bring them to the swap? If you do, I would like some. I have grown tomatoes from seeds, it has just been a long time ago. I love the heirloom tomatoes! Let me know.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Yeah I can

I need to make little packets with 10-20 seeds in them. It's been crazy trying to organize everything since we moved out of the city. I have seriously hundreds of varieties!

I could bring heirloom tomatoe seeds too. Maybe we could do a tomato swap too! I have 9 different kinds (black sea man, juan flamme, striped cavern, green zebra, gold medal, amish paste, and cherry roma will for sure make some good seeds for me this year)
All of those came from Seed Saver's Exchange. They have spectacular variety and provide saving instructions. Their website and catalog are great... WAY too easy to spend $$$! I have been very happy with everythng about them... price, variety, shipping time, germination, plant quality, Its all wonderful!

On a side note I came home to an exciting discovery last night. I was out celebrating a good friend's new job and when we got back the rooster pen was going nuts! Just last week (on the other side of their pen) we had discovered Scarlet, my BLRW hen, had hidden a nest of 11 eggs! Not knowing how long she'd been doing her thing we let her keep them though I do NOT need more chickens!!! Last night the neighbor's dog discovered her presence and began trying to dig under the fence to get to the peeping he heard after she hatched 7 little splashed BLRW chicks (bringing my chicken total to 70!) OMG how did I get so many birds?! I will be offering BLRW at the swap. I can't kep this many birds!!! (Though of course you all know how tempting it is!)
