Oregon folks (Washington too) - Chicken Swap in Salem on June 13!

And if you reserve a spot, there's an hourly fee with a 4 hour minimum. Sounds like the park is the place to go, though!

Updated swap info:

Bil - 2 BLRW, 2 Speckled Sussex
Lemurchaser - 1 Black Copper Maran

I still have a few speckled sussex and giant blue cochin available, let me know!

Also have two 'lil mixed chickies - mama is a golden laced wyandotte, daddy is a light brahma. They're cute - brown and gold chipmunk striping with feathered legs!

It was a beautiful day yesterday, we were in the park about 1:30 in the afternoon, and there was hardly anybody there so I don't think we'll need a reservation.

Hi All, I just found this thread and would like to attend. However, it's late and my hubby is already in bed, so I can't talk to him about it.

But, if we do come, I've only got one chicken to swap. He's what I believe to be a Red Star Rooster who unfortunately has decided he doesn't like my 8 year old son. We've been thinking about keeping him, but he bit my son again today, so I really think he has to go.

We had thought about eating him, but I'd rather see him go to a new home where he can be appreciated (or eaten if you like, I just don't want to have to do it).

I'm also wondering if anyone has any ducks? We lost one of our young ducks to a predator and I'd love to replace her. She was a Khaki Campbell.

We also lost a young hen to the same predator and would like to replace her too.

Oh yeah, the rooster is currently 15 weeks, would just be 17 weeks by the 13th. He's just beginning to crow.

Sounds like a very cool thing...a swap.

One more question, what do you use to transport your chickens? Especially if you'll only have one like me?

I just use a dog crate for transporting ......I found them used at the Goodwill. I have a small, medium and a large one. They work great unless it is raining.
What kind of hen are you looking for?

Looking forward to seeing you at the SWAP!

Hi Sheila,

It would be great to have another Cottage Grover at the swap!

Hope you guys can make it.

About transporting chickens, I'm going to use dog crates that we have. Very secure, safe and lots of ventilation. You could also use a cardboard box maybe with holes, or a screen for a top.

Hope to see you there.

Thanks for the welcome!

Unfortunately, it got so late and we were so busy, that I never got a chance to talk to my hubby about this. So, I'll try again tomorrow.

Bil,
It's cool that another Grover uses this site. I am so glad that I found it. It has been a wonderful tool!

Kim,
I'm not sure yet what kind of hen I'd want. We have Red Stars because they lay so well. But since we lost the one, it might be kinda fun to just get one for fun. Maybe a silkie would be cool. I remember having them when I was a kid.

Any interest in my roo? I wish I lived out in the country where people wouldn't be bothered by him. But, I guess that wouldn't solve the problem of him not liking my 8 year old. Oh well.

I'll let ya'll know tomorrow if we can make it.

Okay, my hubby and I will definitely be coming. Probably with the kids too. All I'll have to offer this time is my one Rooster. Next time I'll have some Khaki Campbell fertile eggs to offer. My drakes are just starting to get busy and we should start getting eggs from them in about 3 - 6 weeks. (See how I'm assuming there'll be a next time...

)

So, there's been some talk of bringing food and making it a real potluck...Is this something we definitely want to do? And should we organize it so we don't end up with 15 desserts and one salad?

I'm so looking forward to meeting you all and seeing everyone's wonderful birds.

Sheila,

Glad to hear you are going to come. I'm trying to talk some of my kids in to coming. How old are your kids, and then that might help me to talk my daughters in to coming. Mine are 8, 12 & 15 (TODAY).

About the pot luck, I don't know if we are doing that or not, but is there something wrong with 15 desserts and one salad?

Sounds about right to me!
