Wow, I am SO excited to see the spring swap already being planned! I get busy and don't get online everyday so what a pleasant suprise! We had a great time last weekend-was fun meeting and visiting new people and we came home with considerably less than we went with...sometimes a good thing!! A BIG thank you to you organizers!
Oregon Jen-I LOVE my new Roos! Zoomummzy-I will definitely be ordering a cheesecake or two!
So for spring; do we want an area with a shelter or can we get by with just large parking area w/ nearby rr facilities. like we had at Albany? I've rented picnic shelters at county parks before but can't remember the exact cost-will look into it. We have a couple other places to check into as well, one close to I-5 in Salem.

Yes, I think we are looking for something like we had in Curtin. Cloverleaf is exploring options in the Portland/Canby area since that is where it is going to be held in the spring so any leads you can give her up there would be great. We will be back down here in the Albany/Corvallis/Salem area next fall. I know people keep mentioning Salem, but we really are trying to keep it up north.

I think a day use campground or even an overnight group camp spot would be ideal (shade, no traffic).

I just wanted to mention if anyone is looking for Livestock Guardian Dogs, both of mine had pups on the 28th, and we are taking reservations for puppies. One had 15 pups and the other had 3, go figure. They are half Great Pyrenees and half Maremma Sheep dog (the cross makes for a more balanced disposition and very well balanced working dog as well as less health problems and a longer life span) and all of the parents are working dogs, have good hips and conformation. These puppies will be raised with milk goats, baby goats, chickens, ducks, geese, guineas, and peafowl, so will have an excellent start to protecting these type of animals and will be well socialized with other animals and people. Puppies will be ready to leave around December 1st. These are all pure white and will reach a weight of around 120-150 pounds (possibly more for the males) and can be excellent protectors of any livestock (sheep. llamas, Alpacas, cattle, goats, chickens as well as your home and yard). They will come with shots and dewormed. Please email if interested or call Ethan 541 521-2505

Also, I still have lots of GORGEOUS Silkie roosters and cockerels available as well as my whole list of birds and probably 8-10 hens and many pair and trios. I do not plan on keeping these over winter, so hopefully I will have a new list for the Spring swap, LOL.

Good news everyone!! I got a chance to speak with the head of the Canby Parks Dept. yesterday afternoon (thankfully he called me back before we was going to be out of the office for 2 weeks!). We got the go-ahead to use the park I like. There is no reservations for this park, but he said get there early and reserve ourselves whatever area(s) we want. I just need to call him and remind him a week before hand, so he makes sure there isn't any lawn mowing, or other maintenance going on that day.

There is a pretty large parking area, with several picnic tables in a grassy area between the lot and the river (fast moving river, might be a problem area for those with small kids). There are 2 other smaller parking areas we could take over, and there are picnic tables scattered about the entire park. There is a playground for the kids, and there is a covered area, though it is at the opposite end from the big parking lot (though this is a pretty small park, and it's easy enough to get from here to there, and supervise the playground from wherever we decide to be). We could also set up a few quickshades over a couple of the other picnic tables if we didn't want to have to use the covered area at the other end...

Soooo.....what does everyone think?

Feathers4fun - don't know how often you get into Canby, but if you've ever been to the Canby Community Park behind Safeway, this is where I'm talking about...

Sweet!

Want: Extra roo's for meat or spent hens.

Another watermelon goat milk soap!

Have:

Plant Starts if all goes well:
Tomato: Roma, sweetie, gold nugget, early girl, Siberia. Gold Nugget is my personal favorite for bucket growing, sweetie is better for soil as it is not as crack resistant.

Herbs: Basil, chive, nasturtium

Other: Morning glory (Turns out my blue with yellow throat of last year were not as labeled! They really are darker blue with white throats.), forget-me-not's

Seeds: Nasturtium and Morning glory if you chose to direct sow.
