Lol yep, pretty short course

See, and I was told just the opposite for the Seramas - hatch at a very low humidity. I think that was a mistake, obviously lol. And yep, I'm going to practice this summer with my girls in small batches. I'll have chicks for the Fall Swap that way!

TallyHo~
I was looking at some of the higher-end incubators, do you like your Roll-X? Any chance you live around the Portland area and would let me look at it? If not I totally understand! I have been hatching a lot of eggs lately and every time I worry about a bad hatch rate, so far I have been lucky, but I want a digital incubator that holds more eggs. I was looking at a few Brinsea and Sportsmans, but ZooMummzy has me scared of the Brinsea, it sounds like she has never really liked it, so I was focusing more on the sportsman, had never even heard of yours, but you sound like you really enjoy it! Any info would be really appreciated!
Thanks

I've used an old sportsman 1202 and lyons roll x incubators in the past and they held temps and turned eggs great! Embryos could be timed for a consistent stage (within an hour of the ideal time) with only minor variation depending on the rack or location of eggs. Granted, never hatched in them because the eggs were used before that time came. That said... I'm sure they would hatch if they were left in there for the whole time!

The Biology department did have a commercial sized 500+ egg Brinsea in the introductory course labs for undergrads, but I never used it.

We have a sportsman-pretty much does it all for us. Anxiously waiting for some Lav Orpington eggs to hatch on Wednesday. And Laura can't wait to see pictures!

Laura, if you want to borrow my most wonderful Roll-X for your next batch of expensive eggs you may. It keeps perfect 99.5 and the humidity you target. It also rolls the eggs 1/2 way each hour...or not if you want it off. I do just what you did with the humidity 35% until day 18 and up it to 60%, depending on which chambers I keep full. But you know what they say about seramas...so delicate to hatch. And I think it's take like 70 eggs!!!!! Just think of all the potential fuzzies!

Thank you

I just might take you up on that! I was about ready to sell my Brinsea to the highest bidder today and throw the LG in the trash lol. I know it is mostly user error but it's so frustrating and I'm just so sad this afternoon. I had such high hopes for this last batch of eggs. Now I have to rethink all my available Seramas since I do not have as many as I thought I would. I will definitely not have as many available for the swap as I had hoped but I do have lots of other fuzzies

I'm trying to let them cheer me up with their cute little chirpings.

Just let me know if you want to try. I never touch it except to add water. It's always perfect. This is an older one I inherited.

Yes, I'm in PDX, so anytime. I think one of the big pluses for the turn x or roll x is the way the eggs are turned. It actually rolls the eggs like mama does. I think I'm going to invest in the newer potentiometer. As SilkieChicken mentioned, these used to be used to study embryology. I don't know if they still are. Unfortunately they are expensive but I think they are actually made in the USA.

Oh don't be scared of the Brinsea, it's a good incubator. I just think you need the humidity pump if you are going to use it. I bought the Advanced but the EX model comes with it. Unfortunately, it is a small incubator - only holds about 20-24 full size eggs so not really for big time hatchers. Now my LG....that I hate...lol

Any future hatches at this point would be purely for scientifical purposes

Riiiight....is that what you tell the DH? Let me know if that works.
