Check out that link. I'm not sure if you have any places that sell bulk loose tea or herbs but you would almost definitely find it there. It may not be called culinary lavender though. What you're looking for is the dried flowers. I used to use them in a lot of desserts and marinades, and vinegarettes when I was still in the trade. You just want to use it as an infusion. Using the straight dried flowers of most varieties is far too overwhelming. You can totally make it yourself if you have lav. You cut the flowers before they bloom when they're fragrant and dry, and hang them to dry. You then gently release the buds, rubbing hands together is rather effective. Let those dry, shaking them sporadically, for about a week. You've got culinary lav! Though I'm sure your need is far more immediate! Hope this helps!

Thank you! I used to have lavender and could get it again. I was just confused because the book said definitely do not use the normal lavender, use culinary lavender. I had never seen a culinary lavender plant so that is why I was frustrated. Thank you! What I need them for is for on top of the cheesecake, just a sprinkling for taste/looks

**Edited to say thank you again for this site! I have never even heard of this place and I have lived here 16 years. I pick up my lavender Thursday afternoon

Sooooo....does that mean you have Lavender?!?! I have two huge weaknesses in my life (well other then family and pets lol) that is Lavender and Cheescake!!! I got cheesecake covered by my lovely friend Zoomummzy, could it be true that there is someone I have an in with in the Lavender business!?!?! Let me know, if you make things with it, have plants anything!!! I would especially love plants that naturally seed and spread, what they sell in stores now is a hybrid kind that does not have fertile seeds or anything! Lemme know!

I am a little ways out from being a producer of lavender, but I do plan to put in some more plants soon. We have a lavender festival every year up here! It is very popular. I can get enough lav flowers to choke a horse! I can send you some when they are in season, very soon.

There are several kinds of lavender, some better for cooking than others. My friend is the woman who started the revolution up here and opened the first lav farm and shop. She designed dozens of products and is a wealth of lav info. What fun!

If you ever have a hard time finding any kind of lavender, we can find it here! Please, no rooster trades! lol!

Do you want your girls then? I don't know what time you will be there but if it works out, I could bring them up there. I am busy after 1pm.....

I'm not getting over there til about then, so guess I'll still plan on the swap. Darn! I would LOVE to get them early!!!

that was a self- comment, but I know everyone is in that boat too. I have roos coming out of my ears right now. I locked 2 in a kennel last night because i found them in my breeding pen! I don't know how or why they were there, but that ruins all those eggs for a week.

You are not alone in this! Rooster management may have taken a new turn here yesterday. I am now considering rooster housing. I might have a house for each roo and put him on an ankle cable to keep them in order. They think that I have no tricks up my sleve?! This might work for me with the non-breeding boys while I am trying to collect purebred eggs. After egg season, they can all roam free again.

I don't know, I am just a bit over my head this time of year.

I thought they had all told you about my previous times at the swap

I'm the one no one ever wants to trade with because all I usually have is roos! I surprised them all this year though

You sound like me last year. I hatched in Nov/Dec/January and had 17 roos to rehome. Since I'm very particular about who gets my roosters (not for meat), it takes me longer to rehome them. It took me from January till the last swap at the end of September, but I rehomed all of them to excellent homes. Things are a bit more manageable this year. I know the 5 roosters I have to really rehome (not counting my Seramas because I will keep them if I have to) will sell themselves. They are adorable and unique - hint hint to the rest of you!

I sure wish I could find something useful for my extra roos to do! I have some who try very hard to lay eggs. They curl up in the nestbox, sometimes with a hen, and they trill and growl. I think they know that they are missing out on something! They try so hard to make an egg, but none yet!

I eat the extra roos, sometimes, and I rasie meat birds too (and process them myself). I also feed my Livestock Guardian Dogs a raw food diet. So roos around here have to be good to the girls or they are dinner. I cull heavily against aggression in chickens and sheep, both can be very dangerous.

I want to tie flies with roo feathers so I can justify keeping them! hehe. I used to have a flock of 16 roos and no hens. I love roos.

I want to share this clip with you people, I know you'll love it! Armadillos, porcupines, what else is there out there?

Gnarley, OMG, that was too fun to watch!! I never knew porcupine were so frisky, playful and expressive!! I've always loved them (yeah, I know, I'm weird) and felt sorry for them since they are loners but this shows they are overflowing with character!! thanks so much for bringing a smile to my face today.
