Oregon

Thanks for your comments on my new coop. Its not as fancy as some this fellow makes mine is more practical. I am not any good with building things like this and not having a man around the house poses problems for me when things need repair. My girls are settling very well and yes the top of the pen does fold up for easy cleaning there is also a door on the side of the pen.

I just thought I would throw this out there if anyone is interested. I heard a neighbor a few blocks away lost 2 birds to mareks last week. I have a bunch from chicks to adults that have not been vaccinated so I bought some but you can only buy 1000 doses at a time. I will be dividing it into 4 so I will still have 250 doses and only a couple dozen birds to vaccinate so I will have a lot left. If anyone is interest in getting some let me know. I will be dosing either wednesday or thursday and am somewhat flexible as far as time to do it. I will mix the vaccine once all interested in getting some arrive. Once mixed the vaccine is only good for an hour or so if kept chilled so we would have to work fast to get it done. You will need to bring a glass container and an ice pack and small cooler or something to keep it cold.

I just hate to waste it. You can have it for free.
( These days sad fact is many people like to blame others for their problems or sue people for crazy things so a disclaimer.
~I am just trying to do something nice for someone who might need it. Just to make sure this is understood I am mixing it per specifications and cant be held reliable for any issues you have vaccinating or illness your birds contract from the vaccination) That said I have vaccinated everything from cockatoos to horses and if you need help vaccinating let me know. I can show you on 1 of my birds, its super easy to do, insert needle until its just under the skin draw back to check for blood to make sure your not in a vein then inject.

You will need to buy your own needles but you can get them at most feed stores, I was told to use 16mm? needle and 1 cc syringe. each dose is .2cc per bird I will check on the needle size when I go to the feed store today to buy them.

I will be dosing all of my birds including adults as I have read everything I could find online about Mareks and the vaccine and all of the university studies done or being done on the virus and vaccine. I feel very confident that dosing my adults and young ones and giving a booster every year to hopefully prevent it is my best option at this point since someone so close has it. Its been proven not to cause harm to adult birds when vaccinating and from what I could tell its effectiveness on adults depends on who you ask some say it works some say it doesn't, so better safe than sorry is my feeling.

Just send me a pm if you are close and want some.

I am in Aloha, Oregon near tv hwy and cornelius pass rd so you can map quest to see how far you are from me if you need to.

That's scary to know there is Maraks just a couple of blocks away. I hope your birds stay safe 2hot2chicken.

I am leaving early in the morning to drive to California to pick up geese.

I've had 3 people contact me and want Silver Appleyards delivered on the route. Then they won't get back to me to arrange a time and place. What is so freaking hard about a quick email to say "changed my mind"?

It's a short attention span that sends an email that they want ducks and 5 minutes later they have changed their mind. I've both called and emailed into empty space, nobody there.

I am not looking forward to the drive, but I am very much looking forward to getting the geese home. 5 goslings morphed into 5 adults, so I'm coming home with a truck load of geese.

Thanks, ya scary but the more the more I have to come to understand about it so that is good because I knew very little about it before.
You don't really learn about stuff until you are faced with it, right?

Just glad none of mine are showing any symptoms so far. I have lost quite a few chicks the last couple batches and still havn't figured out why but they are dying between 1-3 weeks not consistant with marek's........

Anybody have an egg carton source they recommend? Cheap and easy is my goal for cartons as most will be going to a "in need" organization. I'm fine ordering just wondered if that was best option.
Thanks all.

Critters, i just have my friends bring me their old cartons from the store, the return old cartons to me to be reused when they are finished. Perhaps not the best source, but certainly the cheepest.... and i have plenty of cartons....
