I think chickens are strictly prohibited in Salem city limits so be careful! My friend's mom just moved to NE Salem and the neighbor complained and they evicted her hens

I'm probably closer to you than tippy even-I'm in Silverton

Welcome!!!

Oooo that's no good

We have a neighbor who has pitbulls that bark at all hours of the day and night. I hope if people can put up with a dog barking for HOURS AND HOURS a random chicken cackle wouldn't be too bad of a problem. (fingers crossed) I think we're also planning a meet and greet for our direct neighbors so they can know first hand from us we have chickens.

We're right near the border of Salem and Keizer.

(gets all paranoid now)

Anyone else from Salem that can confirm this?

Hmmm. I think we just found out what's what with our coding. From what we can gather, we're only zoned as 'single family' residential. If we were 'single family agricultural' we'd be fine. Unfortunately, we're still in the big brother shadow of the city limits.

We talked to our immediate neighbors and they said they don't care at all. Our neighbors on our other side haven't moved in yet the house was bought about 3 weeks ago and has been sitting vacant. Kinda weird. Until they move in and we have a let them know why we have chickens and that they're only hens and only 2 of them, I will be fretting away.

I looked on Craigslist and there was someone in NE posting about having 13 or so chickens and roosters and eggs for sale. I can see potential problems with that because if it is in NE where I am.... that's 13 chickens with roosters, in a residential area. Still waiting on an email from them to see what's what.

Wish us luck. Hopefully 2 hens aren't enough to cause a huge commotion

(grumbles about zoning codes)

(grumbles about whacky city limit lines)

Hi Zanadi and welcome. I'm fairly close to you, in Corvallis.

It's ridiculous that Salem won't allow chickens. I hope you are able to stay under the radar. If your neighbors have told you they don't care, and you are discreet, I would think you'd be fine.
