Oregon

Yes finally spring, well aside from the freezing temps overnight. brrrrr. I love when my Tom drags his wing like he's a big shot. It cracks me up. I have several random breed chickens and some mallard ducks too, but I really focus on my Turkeys.
:lau
Curious... Why do you keep turkeys?
I'm not trying to be ignorant or disrespectful. I don't really know anyone with turkeys, except that one person who is a breeder.
Do you like them for their personalities or like the way the look? Do you eat them? What do you like about keeping them?

I love all these new Oregonians on our thread!!
Welcome everyone!! :frow

I haven't seen weasels but I know there are minks in our area in Beaverton. @Ol Grey Mare gave some good advice... hard ware cloth, covered run. Depends on your priorities & comfort level.
I free range mine during the day and then lock them tight at night. But I know they are pretty savvy & have figured out some good hiding places.

What part of Portland are you in? Most people I know who have chickens in the city are in NE. What's your flock like?

Good question! I only know of 1 person in Portland who has a turkey. Just one tom. He freaked me out the first time I met him because he kept following me around with his wing dragging & I had no idea what he was doing -- if this was a sign of aggression or what! Turns out he was just trying to show me how sexy he was :drool:confused:

So do you think it's finally spring?
Hi everyone, I'm here in Portland, Oregon.

Hello and welcome! Always nice to meet a new "neighbor"
Hi Ol.....
I have a five (now almost 4) chicken flock and live in Portland, Multnomah County. I have an entire fenced-in yard for the chickens, a coup/house and an apiary. The girls are; Buffy(Buff Orphington/EasterEgger, Dot (Wyandotte), Gilly (Wyandotte) Ruthie (Australorp) and Nellie (the sick girl, an Australorp as well) I inherited them with the house I bought 2 years ago. I'm crazy in love with them.

I have a beautiful Lavender Orpington rooster that I will be needing to find a home for, I may also have 2 Golden laced Wyandotte hens I may get rid of. My hens are 3 years old still lying lot. My rooster Maui is a year and a couple months.

I’m located in Eugene area.
Would any one be interested. They are free.

Hello all! Just wanted to say that I'm looking for a good broody hen in OR (Beep, my sweet broody, died recently). Can drive to medford or Roseburg, Oregon (or pretty much anywhere in between) but she's gotta be a good broody that sticks with it. :) The breed matters little. However, I am going for a clean legged breed because my girls free range most of the time. Also, I would prefer a hen that is friendly/easily handled. :)

He's a beauty. If you don't have any luck here, try an ad on Craigslist. It took over 3 months, and I had flyers and ads every where, but I re-homed my Roo. You might try posting a color flyer at the OSU extension office in Eugene (near Jefferson street?). Give one for the Master Gardeners office and one for the 4H person. It would be a shame for such a beautiful rooster to end up at freezer camp. Good luck!
