Oregon

Hello from Springfield :)
I don't mind getting snow, but serious cold with no snow just isn't ok :p
Our girl Rosie doesn't seem to mind too much though, I usually have to convince her to come in out of the rain too or she will wait until the last minute.

Hi former neighbor (I was in Eugene before moving to Oakridge last year)! I'm kind of ok with the cold temperatures -- I have food and water in the well insulated coop, and it means that I can sleep in a little while longer (guilt free) before letting everyone out. The coop is MUCH warmer than outside, and mine want to be outside running around in all weather too!

We get hawks, eagles, & coyotes here plus neighborhood dogs & cats. The horses must help with keeping some predators away though, right?

I think horses would help with predators -- anything helps (unless it IS the predator, such as your own dog that attacks your chickens). My 2 rabbits free range in the yard with the hens (I know! Cuteness factor X one million!) and the buns and hens often give the TERROR ALERT for each other. The buns will thump hard when they spot a hawk (which is always a crow, but whatever, they're trying) and all the hens give their warning cluck and freeze as well. The hens, in turn, cluck and protect the buns from all the hungry butterflies, song birds, dragonflies, and random leaves that enter the yard.

The poop-on-the-deck-or-sidewalk dogs, have also alerted us many times when Mrs Bandit (the raccoon mama) has decided to breach the property. Those alerts are the only thing that has redeemed the dogs in my Sweetie's eyes! (he loves his bunnies, dogs, not so much!)

Just popping in to say hello. Thanks, Killer Tomato, for suggesting this thread!

View attachment 1279018 My biggest rabbit, a rescue, who is about 12 lbs. Sitting with my biggest hen. It would have to be a strong-ass hawk to drag one these BBW off for a meal.
Holy moley they're adorable!!
Especially with that dark nose. Double dang it!!
I'll have to show these pix to my honey & convince with cuteness overload. Any more ammo is appreciated :highfive:
